The Volkswagen Caddy eHybrid is a livelier addition to the hybrid minivan market

The current generation of the Volkswagen Caddy was launched in 2020. A hybrid variant was announced at the time, but it seems that it will not be available until 2025. This is the Volkswagen Caddy eHybrid, a plug-in hybrid available in both the commercial version Caddy Cargo and for the compact passenger van. Its starting price in Germany is 44,012 euros.

The Caddy eHybrid joins the petrol and diesel variants. Its drive system is well known, combining the 1.5 TSI petrol engine with an electric motor of 110 kW (150 hp) and a torque of up to 350 Nm. The third element of the equation is a battery with 19.7 kWh useful capacity (like the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Cupra Formentor or the Skoda Superb), with which it announces an electric range of up to 122 km.

An automatic gearbox Shift-by-wire The battery is responsible for power transmission. The drive battery also supports fast charging with direct current up to 50 kW or alternating current up to 11 kW. The user decides on the multimedia system screen whether to use electric power or to drive with both engines.

It is available in Combi and Cargo versions. Both are available with a normal wheelbase (MPV with five seats and Cargo version with two) or as a Maxi version with a long wheelbase, which can accommodate up to seven people. It reaches a top speed of 183 km/h as a passenger vehicle, while the Cargo eHybrid remains at 181 km/h.

The 2025 Volkswagen Caddy eHybrid gains a digital instrument cluster as standard. The voice assistant that works with ChatGPT is now included as an option. As for driving assistants, all come standard with traffic sign recognition, cruise control system, parking distance control and advanced driver attention and drowsiness monitoring. Cargo versions gain additional side and curtain airbags, multifunction camera, tire pressure loss indicator, lane change assistant and front assistant with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, in addition to the multifunction steering wheel, which is already available in passenger versions.
