The process that has led Yamaha to develop the New YZR-M1 V4 has been long and painful. Long because they had been circling the matter of competitiveness for a long time, and whether they are disconnected from the four online engine or continue with it. And painful because while they have decided, they have become the least competitive mark of the grill.
The current MotoGP Regulation is developed so that it could be competed freely in terms of configuration. But the reality is that V4 engines had an advantage over the four online. And until Yamaha has presented his YZR-M1 V4, he was the only one that competed with that engine.
Putting ourselves in historical mode, Yamaha opted for the four online since the beginning of the MotoGP era, as did Suzuki and Kawasaki. But Honda, Ducati, KTM and Aprilia decided to opt for V4 that, in the long run, have been more effective, especially since aerodynamics has changed the development of the competition. Until then, despite lower performance, the four online had advantages that minimized their deficiencies.
As for the New YZR-M1 V4 that has officially presented during the San Marino GP at the Misano Wolr Circuit Marco Simoncelli, we can say that it is the pride of the Iwata brand. They have made their debut an event in which there has been even an act. That is, to officially present means that it has been seen in public, but have talked about the development of the project.
The main plana of the Yamaha Yzr-M1 V4 project has been in the presentation
A project in which the general director of the Yama Motor Company Motor Sports Development Division, Takahiro Sumi; the general director of Yamaha Motor Racing, Paolo Pavesio; The head of the Kazuhiro Masuda project and the technical director Max Bartolini have been present, and have given their views and also about the future both in the remainder of the season and 2026.
The two pilots who head the development have also been present: Augusto Fernández and Andrea Dovizioso. In fact, Augusto will be in charge of debuting in competition the Yamaha Yzr-M1 V4, and the expectations are high.
Of course, you have to remember that Yamaha is at the same time preparing the change of regulations and that implies that they will have a lot of work ahead. On the next steps in the New Yzr-M1 V4, once the Grand Prix is over on the same Monday in the Misano Tests, Fabio Quartar will go up to it while also continuing rolling Fernández.
Everyone has been satisfied with the new project and is not for less. They seek to turn the situation and return to the positions they have always occupied. Today they are the last to adopt the V4, but in their day they were one of the first (after Honda with the failed NR500) then in the 500 category and with two -stroke engines. Only the future will tell us whether to lose its traditional configuration has been worth it.
What is clear is that, as we suspected at the time, in addition to the engine there are many other changes in the aerodynamic part, the escape zone, with a new escape two in one coming out under the hill (the other is in the keel), and even in the chassis compared to some large awards of this season.
In summary, the New Yamaha Yzr-M1 V4 is a totally new motorcycle and if they make it debut with such expectation, there is no doubt that they expect results sooner than later.
