These are the brands and cars most likely to suffer serious accidents

The security It is one of the most important points that a car must have. Many users look at the protection that their vehicle can give them in general terms, although it does not always depend on the stars it achieves in EuroNCAP. The type of accident and other variables also influence. That becomes clear when we take a look at a recent study that shows the brands and cars most prone to serious accidents. Most are models with high safety levels, so I could talk more about their drivers.

The comparator iSeeCars has carried out an exhaustive analysis of all the accidents that recorded deaths in the United States between 2017 and 2022. They crossed the data with the average kilometers traveled by the models involved to obtain the accident data by distance traveled, something that is used to evaluate the most prone brands and vehicles. It is true that cannot be extrapolated to Europesince the conditions are different and some of the models are not for sale. Still, it is a curious exercise to watch.

Brands most prone to serious accidents

  1. Tesla – 5.6 fatal accidents per billion miles
  2. Kia – 5.5 fatal accidents per billion miles
  3. Buick – 4.8 fatal accidents per billion miles
  4. Dodge – 4.4 fatal accidents per billion miles
  5. Hyundai – 3.9 fatal accidents per billion miles

The American Tesla is the brand that has the highest rate of fatal accidents with a record of 5.6 accidents per billion miles tours. These are data that may seem remote, but are worth analyzing. Kia is close behind with 5.5 accidents with fatalities due to the high distance traveled by its cars. It is key to know that the average is 2.8 accidentsso these are practically doubling it.

Models more prone to serious accidents

  1. Hyundai Venue – 13.9 fatal accidents per billion miles
  2. Chevrolet Corvette – 13.6 fatal accidents per billion miles
  3. Mitsubishi Mirage – 13.6 fatal accidents per billion miles
  4. Porsche 911 – 13.2 fatal accidents per billion miles
  5. Honda CR-V – 13.2 fatal accidents per billion miles
  6. Tesla Model Y – 10.6 fatal accidents per billion miles

In this list we find several specific models for the US market. In first position of the most prone cars is the Hyundai Venuea small SUV measuring just over four meters that is almost 5 times more likely to suffer a fatal accident than average. It is closely followed by others such as the Chevrolet Corvette or the Mitsubishi Mirage (Space Star here). They are followed by others that are also in Europe such as the Porsche 911, Honda CR-V or Tesla Model Y.

It is surprising that these vehicles have a very high level of safety and passenger protection is outstanding. However, this study could be showing more the type of driver who uses them. In the case of sports vehicles like the 911 or the Corvette, high speeds and misuse can cause these fatal accidents. On the other hand, it has been shown that small models are the most dangerous, as they register a greater number of victims in these accidents.
