The world of the two wheels seems to have reached the war conflict that star Russia and Ukraine for three years. That is what we can deduce when we find offroad motorcycles in the middle of the battlefield. A technique that although it is not new, since many armies in previous wars made use of it, it is surprising in the 21st century, taking into account the technological and arms level with which it has a power like Russia.
This decision to wear offroad motorcycles in some attack operations, seems to have been developing for at least a year. However, a video has now leaked where you can see Russian soldiers practicing on mud tracks to the motorcycle controls of this type.
The audiovisual document, published by the Russian Defense Ministry, “It shows soldiers of the 299th VDV Regiment (airborne) of the 98th division practicing offensive and defensive maneuvers”as detail from Moto Italia.
Offroad motorcycles increase the speed and maneuverability of operations
Undoubtedly, the equipment does not help maneuver on motorcycles, although Russian soldiers try to put their part. Moreover, literally, life is literally in it. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) explains that: “The images indicate that the Russian army is probably developing a tactical doctrine for the systematic offensive use of motorcycles and could be preparing to deliver a greater number of motorcycles to Russian staff in Ukraine.”
We do not know very well what has been the reason that has led, to the mandamases of the Russian army, to make the decision to use offroad motorcycles for certain missions after the enemy line. Pavlo Shamshyn, spokesman for kyiv forces deployed in the Járkov region, explains that “The motorcycles would allow enemy troops to increase their speed and maneuverability in the field, both essential factors to evade drones.”
However, the noise emitted by these offroad motorcycles would prevent the pilot from listening to drone approaching. That is why armies are testing electric motorcycles to perform this same work. The ISW concludes that this type of assault techniques has increased, being able “Make combined, mechanized and motorized assaults and transport infantry with motorcycles and civil vehicles along the entire front line.”
For its part, the Russian Command “It continues to adapt its tactics to counteract attacks with Ukrainian drones and probably to mitigate the limitations of Russian army equipment resulting from the high losses of armored vehicles.”
