They put a Harley X440 in the water, then they throw it from 10 meters and it still starts

Just over two years ago, Harley-Davidson, in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, launched its new X440 on the market. Initially presented in three equipment versions, it is powered by a single-cylinder air-cooled engine and fed by an electronic injection system, associated in turn with a six-speed gearbox.

As a result of this mechanical configuration, the X440 offers a maximum power of 27 HP at 6,000 rpm and 35 Nm of torque at 4,000 revolutions. As for its chassis, it has elements such as a 43 mm KYB inverted front fork and a pair of lateral shock absorbers at the rear. When braking, we find two discs clamped by ByBre calipers, anchored to wheels shod with MRF Zapper Hyke tires in sizes 100/90 X 18 and 140/70 X 17.

The X440 is ready for whatever you throw at it

Being clear about what the Harley-Davidson X440 offers us, EVO India recently set out to test the model’s resistance after subjecting it to harsh punishment over three days. A test that included five sections, which of them was more cruel to the X440, but that ultimately only sought to check if the Yankee model is prepared to face any situation in truly adverse conditions.

In this way they rode the motorcycle on an Offroad circuit full of mud for two hours at a good pace. Subsequently, and as the second section of this test, the X440 was tested on a second track intended for practicing MX. The Indian media describes her as “a much shorter circuit, but infinitely more challenging. A steep climb, strewn with relentless rocks and boulders.”

Once the second requirement was passed, the X440 was subjected to a test of strength. To do this I had to tow a pickup for at least 100 meters starting from a standstill. Once the challenge was achieved, they made it even more difficult by including 400 kilos of extra weight inside the truck. However, surprisingly he achieved his goal again, although the worst was yet to come.

The fourth section of the test would be carried out in a natural environment that is not very suitable for a motorcycle: a water tank. There it remained submerged for 15 minutes and to everyone’s surprise, once out and “well drained”, the motorcycle started after several attempts. If this didn’t take into account the overall toughness of the X440, there was still the ultimate test of this test. This is nothing more than throwing it to the ground from about 10 meters high.

From EVO India they comment: “We rented a crane from a nearby construction site, hired professional climbers Deepak Pawar and Monish Dave to hang the motorcycle from the crane hook and raised it 9 meters off the ground.” They continue: “With all the cameras rolling, we count down from 10, eager to witness a spectacle otherwise only seen on the big screen… 3, 2, 1, release.”

Curiously, the X440 emerged almost unscathed from this latest outrage “We ran to the motorcycle, picked it up and gave it the key. As if it were clockwork, the screen turned on and it only took two attempts to start it” say the ideologues of the test. And they conclude: “The only scars from the battle were a broken kickstand spring, a small dent in the gas tank, and a chocolate shake (motor oil) from the immersion.”
