This Continental GT650 proves that you don’t have to destroy a classic motorcycle to make it unique

Like the components of Bunker Custom Cyclesthe members of SMN love preparations based on the iconic Continental GT650. A truly special model that “lets itself be done” when someone decides to reconfigure its appearance and even its technique. However, on this occasion, although we are dealing with a full-fledged customization project, its authors have kept the identity of the model itself unchanged.

Continental GT650 by Bunker Custom Cycles in detail

This Continental GT650 started from a very simple and schematic idea: “take a motorcycle that already had good proportions and give it a more complete and committed identity without losing the essence of the original platform”. This is also confirmed by the project leaders. They also took as reference the initial idea offered by Nephan, the owner of the motorcycle.

However, the Bunker Custom Cycles team had free rein to determine the changes and reforms they should undertake on the fly. Regarding the latter, the most significant change of this customization is the specific body kit composed of a front fairing and a newly designed rear section, both made by hand by the Uzer brothers.

Starting with the piece that shapes the front of the Continental GT650, it consists of six main panels of fiberglass reinforced plastic, joined with black stainless steel M3 screws, and supported by specific steel supports. In order to anchor it, as its creators explain, it was necessary to “modify the front part of the chassis so that the fairing could be properly supported on the motorcycle.”

In addition, it was decided to lower the clip-on handlebars by 2.5 cm, using support clamps, thus facilitating a more natural riding position with the new fairing and reinforcing the café racer aesthetics of the motorcycle. Once this part of the process was completed, they then focused on the rear of the motorcycle where the chassis had to be shortened between 8 and 10 cm in order to later install the new components (seat and tail). About this part of the preparation they comment:

“This was an important part of the project. A beefy front fairing can easily overshadow the rest of the motorcycle if the rear end is left visually untouched. The custom rear section helps connect the entire composition, giving the GT650 a more consistent line from front to rear.”

They conclude: “With its integrated shape, visible fixings and compact proportions, it enhances the sporty character of the bike without being ostentatious. The design of the rear lighting and the relationship with the seat were also addressed so that the bike looks compact, simple and functional.” As a final touch, the number 15 was added to the sides of the seat itself. Apparently it is the owner’s lucky number.

In short, this café racer-style Continental GT650 appears to be an interpretation of a more complete and deliberate version of the platform that gives life to the iconic retro model. Some subtle and perceptible improvements that do not overshadow the essence of the motorcycle and at the same time give it that extra personality that suits the Royal Enfield mount so well.
