The world of auctions is unpredictable and to support this statement you just have to take an eye on the final figure that has been paid for this Cyclone V-Twin of 1915: $ 1,320,000something like 1,285,000 euros.
A figure of true record, since never before, no motorcycle sold through this modality, had managed to exceed the million dollars. A fact that shows even more the huge amount of money disbursed on this occasion.
The Cyclone V-Twin turned into a record motorcycle
To tell the truth, as detailed by New Atlas’s colleagues in his article, there has been an occasion in the world of auctions in which the million euros has been exceeded as a final bid for a motorcycle. A figure higher than what has finally been paid by the Cyclone V-Twin of 1915 in this event organized in Las Vegas. We talk about the motorcycle used by Wyatt «Captain America» (Peter Fonda) in Easy Rider.
On that occasion the maximum bid reached up to 1,350,000 dollars, but reasons that we do not know, the sale finally was not completed. In the case of the Cyclone V-TWIN, the purchase operation has come to fruition, establishing a new sales record at an auction.
Previously, as you can see in the explanatory table that we leave you above, figures had been reached very close to that million dollars barrier. In it we can see the 935,000 dollars that were paid for a Harley-Davidson “Strap Tank” in 1908 in 2023. Also the 929,000 that were disbursed in this case by a specimen of Vincent Black Lightning of 1951 in the 2018 season .
In addition, as a culmination to this event we could also see as another participant of this auction final disbursement $ 880,000 for one 1938 Crocker Twin. The funny thing about the subject is that both motorcycles belonged to the same collector, Urban S. Hirsch III, which treasured them in their private museum within their huge personal residence. Apparently, Hirsch became a man of fortune by trading with printing ink, in addition to being a manual oil.
Now both his Cyclone V-Twin and the Crocker Twin will rest in their new homes. We assume that neither one nor the other will step on the asphalt and that both will continue to play the same function as until now: to be exposed. Nothing strange, on the other hand, if we take into account the amounts of money disbursed by any of them.
