North Yorkshire is an ideal place to enjoy motorcycles. However, they have a major concern: as reported by MCN colleagues, the accident data for 2021 shows that despite motorcyclists being 1% of its road traffic, in that year they accounted for 20% of fatalities on its roads. It is a terrifying figure that far exceeds the average for the rest of Great Britain, where the rate is also a chilling 12%.
Therefore, the authorities are looking for a way to control this complicated situation and, taking advantage of the fact that this past weekend was a long weekend, they have had at their disposal a brand new and spectacularly decorated BMW M1000RR on loan.
Although the bike in question has a decoration that could remind us of the police, it is nowhere to be seen. Not only does it not have the usual lights of this type of police vehicle, but we can also clearly recognise Sylvain Guintoli’s number 50.
The French rider, who after a long association with Suzuki is now part of the BMW team and owns a BMW M1000RR, is very popular in the United Kingdom, as he lives there and it is common to find him on rides with the rest of the fans.
North Yorkshire Police seek to raise awareness among users
And at the heart of the matter, this initiative by the North Yorkshire Police is a bit like this: to make users aware that they must ride their motorcycles in a sensible manner, no matter how powerful they are.
However, the BMW M1000RR has no less than 209 hp and is native to the track, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy it in a much more relaxed way on the road and that when the time comes you can take full advantage of its potential on the circuits.
This is not the first time that the North Yorkshire Police Force has carried out different campaigns. A while ago we saw them patrolling the road network with a Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX. However, on that occasion they were completely camouflaged, as the aim was not to attract attention like this spectacular BMW M1000RR does with fluorescent stickers.
