Approximately four years ago we talked for the first time about the existence of solar gasoline, the result of a research project launched by the Eth Zurich University With the teacher Aldo Steinfeldat the head of it. In fact, he has been in charge of performing the first road test at the controls of his Harley-Davidson, giving given the efficiency of this type of fuel.
After the historic tour, he declared: “This is a dream come true. I am very proud of all innovative achievements and especially grateful to the entire Synhelion team for making solar fuels come true.” And it is not for less, taking into account the revolution that could become this type of clean energy within the automotive sector.
Solar gasoline is already a reality
As detailed after having used solar gasoline in a standard combustion engine, “The Harley-Davidson of Steinfeld roared by starting with Synhelion renewable synthetic gasoline, produced at the Dawn plant in Jülich, Germany.” As explained, this is the first demonstration plant at the Synhelion industrial scale successfully validating its technology in an industrial environment.
Therefore it is clear that the company is ready for large -scale implementation. Synhelion uses solar heat to boost a thermochemical process that converts a biogenic carbon source and water in synthetic replacement fuel, specifically fuel of sustainable aviation (SAF), gasoline and diesel.
Unlike fossil fuels, Synhelion’s solar fuels are practically neutral in CO₂, since they emit only the amount of CO₂ used in their production. Solar gasoline has a totally effective solution to fossilize transport without modifying infrastructure, engines or existing vehicles.
Philipp Furler and Gianluca Ambrosetti, Synhelion executive co -founders and co -director, commented after the first motorcycle fueled by solar gasoline: “This moment was more than a simple demonstration: it was a tribute to the decades of pioneer work of Steinfeld. Without his dedication and vision, Synhelion would not exist today. Seeing him conduct his Harley, driven by the same technology that he helped create, it was an appropriate celebration of his contribution to the energy transition.”
This milestone goes far beyond demonstrating that solar gasoline works. That had already been found before. The message is much deeper and more relevant, since Synhelion fuels comply with existing standards and can be mixed with fossil fuels.
Synhelion solar gasoline is a direct substitute for fossil gasoline, fully compatible with conventional internal combustion engines. So now it’s just asking: When can we refuel solar gasoline at our nearest service station? …
