This is how they have created a 160 HP Yoshimura beast with an Endurance soul

Yohann Kostrzewa, at the head of the French preparation workshop KOS’THORonce again shows us his love for the Gixxers of the end of the last century with this GSX-R1216 “Yoshimura”. A preparation with a clear flavor of Endurance and everything that revolves around the orbit of Hideo “Pops” Yoshimura and his racing mounts.

In short, a high-flying project with a marked racing character thanks to the use and implementation of an endless number of top-level components and modifications. In fact, its creator lists it as “the type of bike that could have competed in Suzuka in the 90s”…and he is right.

Suzuki GSX-R1216 “Yoshimura” in detail

Just a few days ago we gave you an account of the GSX1300R Slingshot Turbo-NOS, a Suzuki “Frankenstein” with the capacity to exceed 400 HP of power. Parallel to this project (he actually conceived it before), Kostrzewa worked on this GSX-R1216 “Yoshimura”. A preparation with clear inspiration Old Endurance that overflows with personality, sportiness and racing essence on all four sides.

In order to achieve all of the above, Yohann used one of the two GSX-R 1100s to restore that he bought from a friend. The other is precisely what ultimately ended up being the vitamin preparation. In the case of this ’87 GSX-R1100 “Slabside” “Yo” chose to maintain the original technical configuration, although with multiple improvements that include a Wiseco 1216 engine, competition carburetors and resistance camshafts.

For this, as with the other project, he turned to the well-known British trainer Dave Dunlopby Fast By Me Turbo Systems. For his part, Kostrzewa was in charge of completely disassembling the block and later painting it in glossy black. Along the way he also installed new Nology spark plug wires, as well as a Yoshimura digital multi-temperature gauge.

Other modifications included in this Suzuki GSX-R1216 “Yoshimura” would be:

  • Racing Heat Shield for Mikuni RS40 Flat Gate Carburetors
  • YSS rear shock
  • Yamaha R6 Footpegs
  • Devil 4 in 1 exhaust system
  • Yoshimura Tri-Oval Muffler
  • Ricambi fairing, reinforced and modified by Yohann, etc.

Currently, this GSX-R1216 “Yoshimura” is capable of offering power to the rear wheel around 160 HP. Little joke. Regarding aesthetics Kostrzewa comments: “A friend painted the base black and red, then I added racing decals and gave them a coat of clearcoat. I gave one of the headlights a coat of yellow clearcoat for a vintage touch.”

Regarding its operation in general, he confesses to his Bike Bound colleagues: “The most impressive thing about this bike is the characteristic sound of the racing carburetors. You can even hear it in the video I sent you. It gives the feeling of riding a racing motorcycle from the 90s”. Our most sincere congratulations.
