Bars Brothers Motorcycles (BBM)based in Bilbao, has recently announced its new project based on the development of an electric motorcycle under the name of hiro. An interesting proposal that would start from a common platform, initially offering up to four different configurations: Streetfighter, Roadster, Café Racer and Scrambler.
So far so good. This approach even sounds quite familiar to us, if we take into account that it is currently the most used within the two-wheeled sector. The idea is mainly to save costs, offering different products under a common technical link.
However, this company founded by the French brothers Guillaume and Benoit Barras, claims to be able to go one step further in what is probably the biggest Achilles heel of electric motorcycles: recharging time. For this they offer It charges up to 80% of the battery capacity in just 15 minutes, and even has 100 km of autonomy in just 9 minutes.
BBM Hiro in detail
Barras Brothers Motorcycles emerged from the Angry Lane custom shop, founded in Hong Kong by Guillaume and Benoit Barras. They have decades of experience in designing motorcycles that they now intend to materialize with the Hiro. As they explain themselves: “After several requests for a custom motorcycle with an electric motor, we began researching the market.”
They conclude: “And there was nothing we could buy: too heavy, with limited range, too plastic, too slow to charge and without soul. Frustrated by the lack of options, we set out to build the motorcycle we wanted. Not just one, but a modular platform to shape unique motorcycles.”
A priori, the main data regarding the Hiro are truly encouraging:
- 94 HP of power
- Up to 225 km of autonomy (depending on model)
- Up to 190 km/h maximum speed (self-limited and depending on model)
- Just 15 minutes of fast charging to recover 80% of your battery capacity
- Up to 100 km of autonomy in just 9 minutes
In addition, the BBM Hiro claims to have ideal weight distribution and optimized ergonomics, the result of work in collaboration with the specialized Belgian brand Saroléa. This one built the SP7 with which he won the TT Zero on the Isle of Man for the first time in 2014, so they know what the subject is about.
In the technical section, the BBM Hiro is equipped with a radial flux motor (RFPM) capable of rotating at 12,000 rpm and offering up to 150 Nm of torque. This is combined with a 12.96 kWh capacity and 360 V battery pack. The system includes an integrated 6.6 KW charger, capable of providing an 80% charge in just 15 minutes.
Weighing 200 kilos in running order, the BBM Hiro uses a tubular chrome-molybdenum steel chassis as its main element in its cycle part. The rest of the structural components (subframe, swingarm or battery housing) are made of aluminum. For its part, the body that gives shape to the body is the result of using recyclable biocomposites.
Depending on the model chosen, BBM would offer us different components with which to configure our Hiro: Brembo radially anchored brake calipers, 320 mm floating discs, inverted fork or 17″ radial wheels would be among this portfolio of options. All of this with an estimated starting price of around 16,900 euros.
