You’ve probably known Snoopy all your life, because he’s about to turn 74 in just under a month, so his adventures have always been there. It’s true that he’s been more of an icon for a long time, but the adventures with Charlie Brown and the way the character created by Charles Schulz sees the world crossed borders. We can’t say that he’s as popular as other animated characters, but for almost half a century Snoopy’s strips were practically daily.
What we hadn’t seen, though, was Snoopy turned into a motorcycle, and even less so that this motorcycle was presented at an enduro Gymkhana. The story is a little more complex. Apparently, this Snoopy motorcycle was never built with anything in mind other than being a promotional item. In fact, there is evidence that the Snoopy motorcycle was designed for a promotional event in Malaysia.
After a while it ended up in Australia, where someone imported the fiberglass body on a Honda Dio 110. The most amazing thing about all this is that they not only managed to mount it on the bike, but to make the modification legal and roadworthy.
There may not be a more striking motorcycle for the street, or at least not a utilitarian and underpowered motorcycle. Perhaps that is why when it was put up for sale, the protagonist of the video, with permission from Snoopy, went straight for it and bought it.
To no one’s surprise, Snoopy’s bike is not competitive in enduro…
After that he decided to take it to the aforementioned Gymkhana to unleash its full potential and, to no one’s surprise, they confirmed that no matter how cool it is, it’s not. The truth is that it’s tremendously fun to watch the video and how all the complications that make this “Snoopy Honda” not competitive come to light. It scrapes on the ground, it’s slow, too bulky, it doesn’t allow you to keep your balance… Maybe we can sum it up in a “has to go too fast in a slow race and is too slow to go fast”.
It’s still one of the most fun, unique and adorable bikes we’ve seen in a long time. And while it may not be as effective as an enduro bike, it’s certainly going to attract a lot more attention.
