This will be the new Italian registrable enduro

Looking ahead to this coming summer, Ducati is preparing important news related to its current off-road range. Among them we have the expected Desmo450 EDSthe model responsible for making the Italian brand debut in the registrable enduro category. A motorcycle that, following the precepts established at the time by the Desmo450 MX family, aspires to become a benchmark among fans who love this discipline.

Ducati Desmo450 EDS: “enduro without concessions”

Starting from the technological platform that Ducati provides with its new Desmo450 EDX, the Borgo de Panigale firm is finalizing the details of what is destined to become its civil version. The long-awaited Desmo450 EDS will share most of its components with the latter, but will also add all those elements necessary to be able to enjoy it off the track.

The brand itself describes it as “a project dedicated to the world of enduro without concessions, with the unique features that Ducati introduced for the first time in the off-road sector”. Although it will not be until next June 9 when we will know all the details of the model, it is legitimate to think that it will be powered by the already known 449.6 cc Desmo single-cylinder engine.

Currently this mechanism offers a final power of 63.5 HP at 9,400 rpm and 53.5 Nm of maximum torque at 7,500 revolutions. Equipped with desmodromic timing, the system allows the engine to operate at very high revs (the rev limiter activates at 11,900 rpm), providing greater power and making the bike easier to handle in tight corners.

For the chassis, the twin-spar aluminum chassis offers an excellent balance between rigidity and handling. This is supported by a Showa suspension system, highlighting the 49 mm inverted fork anchored to its front. Although we do not know the maximum travel it offers on both axles, in the field variant it has 310 and 301 mm, front and rear respectively.

Another element that is to be expected in the technical configuration of the Ducati Desmo450 EDS is the aluminum rim kit. Takasago Excel and Alpina radios in sizes 21” and 18”. It is very likely that these will come with pneumatic tires. Pirelli Scorpion XC Mid-Soft80/100-21” and 110/90-18”, just like the Desmo450 EDX uses. In any case, it is a fact that has yet to be confirmed.

Finally, it is essential to mention the braking system that will be responsible for stopping the little more than 100 kilos that this Desmo450 EDS must weigh. Using two of the sector’s leading brands, Brembo and Galfer, the assembly of a two-piston floating caliper at the front and a single-piston caliper at the rear is expected. The discs are most likely to have a diameter of 260 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear.

Desmo450 EDS: the brand's first enduro is on the way

We only have one question regarding the new Desmo450 EDS: its price. Although the Desmo450 EDX is not sold in our country, the Desmo450 MX starts at 12,990 euros, a similar rate to its homonymous durara. It is very likely that our protagonist today is around those same figures, although we will not be able to confirm it until next June 9.
