Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V 2024: the pick-up also receives the ECO label

Electrification is gradually reaching almost all automotive sectors. That includes vehicles that have traditionally had a very different focus. However, the logic of the Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V 2024. It will hit the market in the middle of next year to be the most interesting option in the range thanks to its improved efficiency and increasing performance. Not to mention the addition of the DGT ECO label and its associated advantages.

Although the Toyota Hilux is a traditional pick-up that has kept its philosophy practically intact since its launch in 1968, they wanted to give it a more modern approach. It consists of keeping the base intact, but adding a 48V microhybrid system which contributes to reducing its emissions. The main block remains the 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodieselbut with this technology it is capable of much more. It maintains 204 HP and 500 Nm of torque, although adding certain advantages.

At the performance level, the 48V system is capable of add 16 HP and 65 Nm of torque punctually to improve behavior. That motor/generator is so compact that it barely takes up any space and the 48V lithium battery weighs 7.6 kg and goes right under the rear seats. To this we must add the DC/DC converter to also power the conventional 12V system, but the efficiency that achieves It is remarkable. Because we must not forget that other measures are added such as the diesel particulate filter or selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and additional urea injection.

There is talk of a improvement in consumption of 5% compared to diesel without microhybridization, while offering a more linear and full response. With regenerative braking it also manages to recharge its battery and the Start&Stop system is capable of operating in an extended range. In fact, the engine restarts faster because the starter motor is not used, but the 48V generator. There are still more details to be known about the Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V, but they already announce that maintains its capabilities off the asphalt.

The wading depth is up to 700 mm thanks to the fact that the new battery has been fully protected, while maintaining the Multi-terrain Select system with the five off-road driving modes. It has a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg, a payload of up to 1,000 kg and the angles are still beneficial. With an entrance of 29º and an exit of 26º, in addition to a ground clearance of 310 mm, there will be no road that can resist you.
