Two of Joey Dunlop’s jewels could end up at home

Destiny is still surprising and capricious. After an entire race, breastfeeding with powerful motorcycles for the most dangerous road races in the world and winning without regard, Joey Dunlop died in 2000 after an accident, with a 125, in a much less important race held in Estonia.

That tragic outcome caused his legend to grow even more, since at 48, he had managed to beat the TT of the island of Man.

The fact is that some of the bikes that Joey piloted became authentic mechanical myths, collection pieces that at any glance of any passionate to the road races recognized and that, of course, would like to have at home.

With the RC30 he managed to defeat the TT of 1988

Well, now already through Bonhams and the auction during the Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show on October 12 it will be possible to have two of them. This is the Honda RC30 with which he won the 1988 Tourist Trophy, and the Honda RC45 with which he won the 1999 Ulster GP and with which he took part in Tallín’s career before the fateful accident. That is, we are facing two units of an important emotional value, beyond that they are two models that, in the market and without carrying Joey Dunlop’s march, they would already cost a fortune today.

It is expected to raise a good sum for each of the two motorcycles of Joey Dunlop

But these two pieces of collector that are, for now, owned by the family and that have been exhibited at the Joey’s Bar in Bolymoney, will be next to other dozens of motorcycles in the auction. Although they will undoubtedly be two of the great attractions. So much so that each of them is expected to be awarded for between 80,000 and 100,000 pounds, that is, between 91,600 and 115,000 euros.

According to Dave Hancock, Bonhams consultant: “Offering one of these machines would be extraordinary; Offer both meetings – the winner of the TT and the RC45 winner of the Ulster GP – of the family collection is a unique event in life.
For collectors and road racing enthusiasts, this represents an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire motorcycles that put the final brooch to the chapter of the incomparable career of Joey Dunlop

And, as we say, they are a real piece of motorcycling history.
