Why do you need two wheels when you can have a one-wheeled motorcycle?

Nowadays, there are all kinds of motorcycles on the market. There are scooters, sports bikes, adventure bikes, naked bikes, dirt bikes, snow bikes and jet bikes… And apart from the latter, they all have two wheels or at most, and in exceptional cases, three. But perhaps these are too many wheels, at least for the guys at Make It Extreme, who have designed a motorcycle that only has one wheel.

It must be said that this is not the first time in history that a motorcycle with only one wheel has been attempted to be built, and this is probably because it has many more disadvantages than advantages. In fact, they are not at all practical for moving around. Unlike a conventional motorcycle, they do not manoeuvre easily and they are not at all stable.

It is not that stability when stopped is the strong point of a motorcycle, although later with the gyroscopic effect in play things change, but certainly a two-wheeled motorcycle stopped will have a much better chance of starting off easily than this curious invention.

The one-wheeled motorcycle was born from scratch, but it is the evolution of a previous model

An invention that, by the way, besides being eye-catching, is a completely handmade creation. Since we’re going to skimp on wheels, why resort to buying a manufactured motorcycle? In reality, this second part is because no one sells this type of motorcycle, so it’s not a question of skimping. If you pay attention to how the video develops, they have had to manufacture practically all the elements.

In fact, they have had to be very resourceful and inventive even for the tyre, because, as you can imagine, there are no commercial sizes for a 57-inch wheel. Yes, that is the size of the inside of the bike. As you can see, the design means that there is an inside and an outside of the bike. What’s more, there is an inside and an outside of the wheel, since inside the wheel is everything related to the bike and the rider, and outside the wheel is simply the rest of the world.

What we must not lose sight of is that in order to build this one-wheeled motorcycle, they had to refine the system until everything worked smoothly. Although there is only one wheel in contact with the ground, there are four inside the chassis, a fifth that transmits the engine’s power to the rim, and the sixth wheel is the one in contact with the ground.

An ingenious system that is actually the evolution of a first motorcycle that they invented six years ago, which ran on a petrol engine and even had a chain. Now they have moved on to the electric fashion and this new one-wheeled motorcycle has two electric motors “donated” by a hoverboard and battery.

Considering that in order to get this curious contraption up and running they have disabled the real hell machine that was the hoverboard, and that without a doubt this one-wheeled motorcycle is much more stable, perhaps it is a good invention.

At least it seems that it is more difficult to rack your brains over it than over those video factories for social networks that were the hoverboards.
