NAD, the industrial group of which Shad is part and in collaboration with Yamaha, has developed the first Keyless side -based induction suitcase, a milestone that redefines the way in which accessories are connected to motorcycles. This innovation debuts in the New Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, and represents a qualitative leap in terms of functionality, comfort and security.
Most of the Keyless solutions in the market connect the motorcycle switchboard with the suitcase through cables or superconnectors. The novelty presented by the NAD Keyless side suitcase, is the use of a technology called WPT (Wiring Power Transfer) in which, by proximity, two plates (a emitter and a receiver) transfer energy without having a metal contact.
First Keyless side suitcase in detail
Using this technology, possible connection problems caused by water, humidity, dirt or connector wear are avoided. In turn, it allows to assemble and disassemble the suitcases with greater comfort, since in between there is no wiring or connector. This energy transfer allows to open and close the suitcase, while having courtesy light or USB cargo port.
In addition, in case the motorcycle begins to circulate without the bags having closed, the switchboard will send a signal so that they are automatically closed when the motorcycle exceeds 10 km/h. The main technological challenge that has had to be faced from NAD was linked to the necessary time for the sender and receiver to match.
Initially, this time was considered excessive for the objectives of the project, since it was around five seconds. Thanks to the software redesign, this protocol has been reduced to only 0.6 seconds, making the pairing almost instantaneous, therefore improving the user experience.
In the Keyless side suitcase project, a team of Mechanical and Electronic Engineers of NAD has participated, they have invested Around 4,000 hours and more than 10,000 km of tests have been made. Likewise, all components for industrialization and marketing have been internationally certified.
In this way, the challenges of this project have been overcome over the four years that have been needed to develop the motorcycle and its accessories. Currently, NAD participates in several projects related to electronics in the suitcases, which places us as a reference in the development and implementation of this type of technology worldwide.
