Yamaha created the Sport Heritage family as a tribute to some of the most iconic motorcycles from the Japanese firm’s past. The latest to arrive has been the Yamaha

Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026 engine
The engine of the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026 is the well-known CP3, first seen in the Yamaha MT-09 and later in the XSR900. We are talking about an 890 cc inline three-cylinder, with internal dimensions of 78 x 62.1 mm. It claims a maximum power of 87.5 kW (119 HP) at 10,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 93 Nm (9.5 kg-m) at 7,000 rpm. A limited version is available for the A2 to 35 kW which, once delimited, reaches a maximum power of 95.2 HP at 9,000 revolutions.
The 2026 Yamaha XSR900 GP has Yamaha Ride Control (YRC), which allows features such as engine power and rider assists to be adapted according to rider preferences and road conditions.
Three integrated preset riding modes: “SPORT”, “STREET” and “RAIN” are factory-set with different levels of intervention to adapt to the conditions at all times. These are complemented by two custom settings so that the rider can manually select their own power settings and intervention in the electronically controlled, tilt-sensitive rider assistance systems, which can be fully configured with a smartphone via the MyRide app.
Chassis, suspensions and brakes of the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026
The 2026 Yamaha XSR900 GP has a diamond-type chassis. But due to the adoption of half-handlebars and therefore the additional load on the front, the areas of the XSR900 GP surrounding the chassis have been adjusted to optimize cornering stability. The subframe has also been strengthened compared to that of the XSR900.
To further suit the more front-end riding style, the
The KYB inverted front fork is fully adjustable in preload, as well as compression and rebound damping, actuated in this case by linkages and tilted forward which allows it to remain almost hidden from view. Remote preload adjustment allows for easy suspension setup.
In the brakes section, a radial brake master cylinder commands a double 298 mm front disc with monoblock radial calipers, assisted by a 245 mm rear disc. The tire combination on Spinforged-type lightweight aluminum rims is 120/70 and 180/55, with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires as standard.
Technology and equipment of the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026
One of the peculiarities of the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026 is the adoption of semi-handlebars. These dramatically change the riding position of the
But that does not mean that ergonomics has been left aside that allows use for kilometers without fatigue. Comfort is accentuated with a thicker and more supportive seat as well as two-position adjustable aluminum footpegs.
A new five-inch full-color TFT display has been installed in the retro-style cockpit. Riders can choose from four different themes to suit different attitudes and a traditional analog-style tachometer theme, inspired by the racing bikes of yesteryear.
The screen allows connection with our smartphone through the My Ride Link application. In addition to being able to see call and message notifications on the 5″ TFT screen, the possibility of making calls and listening to music through Bluetooth headphones is added. Or also use the integrated Garmin StreetCross navigation system.
It has a 6-axis IMU, derived from the technology used in the R1. In this way we can enjoy tilt-sensitive traction control (TCS), the skid control system (SCS), as well as a front wheel lift control (LIF) and brake control system (BC).
The 2026
But perhaps the most notable feature would be its fairing. The 2026 XSR900 GP has an upper fairing reminiscent of the 80s like the YZR, FZR and TZR. To maintain the racing bike look, the XSR900’s round LED headlight has been replaced with a compact lens module, hidden in the front fairing.
To reinforce the feel of the classic cockpit, the upper fairing stay is secured with nuts identical to those used on the original TZ250. Inspired by authentic racing style, this frame is secured with a beta pin, a tribute to the first time Yamaha used this type of fastening on a series production model for use on public roads.
The color-matched seat cover fits over the passenger seat to complete the racing look, with an ’80s-style square tail that hides the taillight, while a seat stop at the top of the tail keeps the driver in the proper position to enhance the sensation of acceleration.
Colors of the Yamaha XSR900 GP 2026
The 2026 Yamaha XSR900 GP is available in two colors:
The first is inspired by the bikes ridden by riders like Wayne Rainey in various 500cc World Speed Championships in the 80s and early 90s with authentic yellow number plates on the front and rear fairings.
The second, new for 2026, pays tribute to one of the most influential and prominent figures in the history of Grand Prix motorcycling: “King” Kenny Roberts. The first American world champion, “King Kenny” captured three titles in the 500cc class, spent 13 years with Yamaha and is considered an AMA legend for his many memorable performances—including his unforgettable performance at the 1975 Indy Mile.
