Zongshen registers the design of an amphibious scooter capable of converting its rear wheel into a propeller

This is not the first time that a brand has embarked on the development of a amphibious scooter, or at least a model with these characteristics that could be called under this description. Previously we have known from the “Lambretta Amphi-Scooter: The vintage amphibious vehicle”, passing through “The definitive trike: electric, amphibious and… it's a house!”, and ending with “Biski, the scooter that allows you to go around Earth and water”.

These are just a few examples, but the industry is plagued by this type of monster halfway between a conventional motorcycle and a jalopy capable of riding the waves of the sea. In short, an exercise in style that, in general, does not tend to have much commercial impact.

An amphibious scooter for everyday life?

Now, thanks to our colleagues at Motorrad we have learned about the patent registration of Zongshen in relation to a design of this type. A amphibious scooter which a priori could convert its rear wheel into an efficient propeller that would allow us to navigate. In addition, the Asian brand makes use of up to 4 side floats with which it would stay afloat.

Among some curiosities that surround this amphibious scooter is that its rear wheel would be responsible for giving it direction in and out of the water. To do this, it equips a suspension system that allows us to turn the wheel 180º once inside the aquatic environment.

For its part, the electric motor would be anchored precisely on the rear wheel and a pair of lateral shock absorbers would be in charge of the suspension at this point. Likewise, the design also does not show a system responsible for pumping water that could enter the front fork.

At this point, one wonders the real usefulness of amphibious scooter, although at first glance none come to mind. There is no doubt that currently the automotive industry seeks to devise new mobility concepts, although we firmly believe that it is concrete, it is likely that it does not have much commercial history.
