Although it has been several years since Pikes Peak stopped admitting motorcycles after Carlin Dunne’s fatal accident, the legendary hill climb test is still in the memory of all motorcycle fans. If you are one of them, now you can get a motorcycle that competed there in the hands of the current record holder and last winner of the event: Rennie Scaysbrook.
The motorcycle in question is a 2015 KTM 1290 Super Duke R, and although it was not with that motorcycle that Saysbrook achieved his record, it is a relatively important motorcycle because it was the one with which he debuted in the test. But not only that, although Rennie was a novice, he achieved the best time in training and in the race he managed to reach the finish line of Pikes Peak with the fourth best time.
Therefore, we are talking about a motorcycle with potential and, logically, a rider who was capable of getting the most out of it. It is true that in all these years motorcycles have been evolving, but it is no less true that this beast that raced in the 2016 edition of Pikes Peak is loaded to the brim.
All you have to do is review the number of accessories, many of them official KTM ones, that were assembled to compete and which makes it clear which motorcycle there is to go really fast:
- KTM PowerParts Akrapovic EVO full titanium exhaust
- KTM PowerParts Race Map (made in house at KTM USA in Murrieta, CA).
- K&N air filter
- KTM PowerParts SAS system disassembly kit
- KTM PowerParts rear footrests
- KTM PowerParts CNC machined upper and lower seat posts
- KTM PowerParts WP Racing Steering Damper
- KTM PowerParts Racing Fibers
- WP Racing Fork Cartridge and 0.90kg Spring Kit
- WP Racing competition rear shock
- Two Airtech racing crankcases
- Drive Systems Chain and Sprocket Kit
He raced on Pikes Peak and can legally ride on the street
Of course, the bike is not free of injuries because, in addition to the more than 8,000 miles it shows on its marker, it still has the notch that Rennie made in one of the fences during the race, when it went off the road. to finish fourth. The good thing is that in the first video you can see the incident, in which, by the way, he was very lucky not to fall down the ravine and lean on the guardrail.
After a while, the motorcycle was sold in 2019 to an individual who has had it since then, but now he no longer has space for this almost unique piece within Pikes Peak and has decided to sell it along with a lot of spare parts and ready to go on the road. street. And, yes, the best thing is that this motorcycle can legally circulate on public roads, at least in the United States, which is where it is currently.
If you want it, for now it is almost a gift because the auction is at $6,100 at the moment. A quite reasonable figure considering the beast that it is and the story at hand.
