941 kilometers of real range in an electric car? Yes, but under special conditions…

It is said that currently the largest The problem with electric cars is autonomy.. There are still many users who do not dare to take the leap because they consider that the number of kilometers per charge they offer is not enough. On the one hand, it is understandable considering how the charging infrastructure is and that autonomy varies in real life. On the other hand, most drivers make shorter trips daily. There is also the surprise factor, like the electric one that has made 941 kilometers without charging.

The first thing to make clear is that this figure has been obtained under special conditions. It was a test in a controlled environment and with efficient driving that would be impossible to achieve in open traffic. That said, the specimen that has achieved the feat has been a Volkswagen ID.7 in its most capable version, the Pro S. It is the one that has a rear motor with 286 HP of power and is equipped with a battery of 86 kWh net capacity. The key is that it has greatly improved its approved data.

With this configuration, the Volkswagen ID.7 approves an autonomy of 709 kilometersa very positive fact. However, reaching those 941 kilometers mentioned, it has exceeded the data collected by the WLTP homologation by almost a third. We are talking about 232 kilometers more, 32.7%, which has only been possible thanks to a average consumption of just 9.2 kWh/100km. How is that possible? Well, thanks to the advantages that the vehicle offers, but also to being in an ideal environment for efficient driving.

The ID.7 boasts a very elaborate aerodynamicswith a coefficient of 0.23 Cx that leaves it among the best in the segment. Despite this, the approved consumption is between 13.6 and 16.2 kWh/100km. Therefore, the real key is that the test has been done in the Nardo circuitunder ideal conditions for electric.

On the Low Speed Ring track (simulates traffic scenarios and endurance tests) at a temperature between 5 and 15ºC, the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S was driven by professionals to shine. The average speed was 29 km/hsimilar to the traffic in some European cities and the car did not suffer any type of technical modification.
