Now that it has been a year since his death, one of the motorcycles that Anthony Gobert rode is going up for auction. It was the motorcycle with which he had his last great flash, before finally sinking into the spiral of drugs, fights and alcohol that removed him from racing and pushed him onto the streets. We are talking about the Bimota SB8K with which he reached the highest level imaginable in 2000, a victory at Phillip Island that is part of WSBK history.
That season Gobert participated in more races with the Bimota SB8K, but those in Australia were legendary, and helped to expand the legend of a driver who was already considered a lost talent in those days. For many and thanks to performances like that, there remained the thread of hope that he could put his complicated private life in order, something that as we all know did not happen, and so we could not enjoy more on the track of what for many was the most pure talent. brilliant from the late ’90s.
In any case, the victory with the Bimota SB8K was historic and that is why the bike with which he achieved it is a piece of history that is now back on sale. And we say that it is going on sale again because, less than two years ago, the same unit was already on sale.
We do not know if it finally changed ownership and now he is getting rid of it again or if, on the contrary, it was not sold and we are facing a new attempt. Either way, Gobert’s Bimota SB8K will go up for auction through Iconic Auctioneers on February 16 in London.
Gobert’s Bimota SB8K will not be cheap at all
It is said that the unit for sale is in the same condition as the last race run by Gobert, and the truth is that if you review the photographs you can see some interesting details that could confirm this. For example, the state of the swingarm, the rust on some springs or the imperfections in the carbon and one of the exhausts.
In any case, it is an opportunity to get a piece of WSBK history although at a price not suitable for most pockets. And it is expected that the auction price will be between 80,000 and 100,000 pounds, which in exchange is a range that goes practically from 95,000 to 120,000 euros to which taxes and auction expenses would have to be added later.
Of course, to enjoy the photographs, remember old deeds from the past and dream of getting it, they will not charge you anything, at least for the moment…
