The Bimota DB2, the work of Pierluigi Marconi, is one of those frames that belongs to what many fans of the world of two wheels call the “golden era of motorcycling.” And it is not only because of the exclusive nature of its construction, but also because it is the living example of one of the European brands with more than half a century of history.
All this without taking into account that this specific model was only manufactured 408 copies between 1993 and 1995; Of them, 285 were faired like the one sold and 123 were equipped with a semi-fairing with the option of also installing a lower keel. In short, a unique motorcycle in every sense that exudes Italian essence from all sides, enjoying indisputable appeal.
Bimota DB2 in detail
There can be few praises with more weight within the two-wheeled sector than those that come from the opinion of the emblematic Alan Cathcart. He even said at the time that the Bimota DB2 was the best machine produced up to that time by the Rimini firm. Among other things, because it is equipped with the well-known air-cooled 90º L-twin from the contemporary Ducati 900SS.
Cathcart, referring to this engine, after his test of the Borgo Panigale mount in 1992, commented: “Vivid acceleration, plenty of torque, and yes, honestly, more than enough real-world performance compared to its Japanese rivals.”. In figures, we were looking at a block that developed 86 HP for the occasion, but after passing through the hands of the Bimota technicians it was possible to increase this figure to 89.4 HP at 7,500 revolutions.
For its part, the maximum torque remained unchanged, 89.5 Nm, now reaching 5,250 rpm450 laps earlier than the previous version. Although it was not stratospheric performance, the Bimota DB2 did not need it thanks to having a top-level chassis and a final weight below 168 kilograms. Among the main components used in this section, we could highlight:

Some striking details of the Bimota DB2 are, for example, mounting a second-generation Yamaha FZR 1000 EXUP headlight or a tank made of fiber with the intention of saving as much weight as possible. In short, a handmade mount that used its own and external elements to offer a very particular riding experience.
