A man dressed as Batman patrols through Mexico executing motorcycle thieves

Sometimes reality far surpasses fiction, and what happened in Mexico seems straight out of a comic book. D.C.. An individual dressed as batman has begun patrolling the streets at night with a clear objective: to chase people he accuses of stealing our most precious asset. Be careful, it is not December 28 and it is not a “fake“, not a joke of ours…

It didn’t take long for the images to flood social networks and accumulate millions of views. In them you can see the popular masked character, or at least someone characterized as batmanleaving several alleged criminals immobilized with abundant “duct tape” and next to the motorcycles that they were allegedly trying to steal.

Batman has already acted on 5 occasions that are already viral

The events are taking place in the city of Lagos de Moreno, located in the Mexican state of Jalisco. According to local media, the vigilante has already acted on at least 5 occasions. After subduing the alleged thieves, he leaves them tied to nearby posts or structures, so that they can later be located by police officers. By the way, it is assumed that he will be armed.

Furthermore, some of the videos even show how the detainees appear with their faces painted or marked, a gesture that many interpret as a way to publicly ridicule them. It is not clear who is hiding under the suit, nor if all the people detained had actually committed a crime. There is also no official information that confirms the circumstances of each of the cases circulating on the Internet.

Mexican Batman

One thing is clear, the police do not approve of his methods. Although a good part of social networks have received these actions with humor and even with a certain admiration, the position of the Mexican authorities is very different. Exactly the same as what happens to the real one batman in Gotham (Gothic City).

The Secretary of Security of the state of Jalisco, Juan Pablo Hernandezhas stated that the actions of this batman Mexican could also constitute a crime and has confirmed that security forces are working to identify it. From a legal point of view, immobilizing and retaining a person outside of established procedures can lead to criminal liability, regardless of whether or not the person detained has committed a robbery. For this reason, the authorities remember that the prosecution of crime corresponds exclusively to the police forces and the judicial system.

But we all have a doubt: is it a real Vigilante, or a strategy to go viral? Yes, obviously, another aspect that fuels the debate is the possibility that the entire story is part of an elaborate campaign to gain notoriety on social networks. The character always appears perfectly characterized, the scenes are recorded with quality and the dissemination of the videos seems to respond to a strategy to capture the public’s attention.

Whether it is a spontaneous initiative or a carefully prepared action, the truth is that the so-called “Mexican Batman” has achieved exactly what he was looking for: to become one of the viral phenomena of the moment and, in addition, to open a debate about the limits between taking justice into our own hands, spectacle and content created for social networks.

Meanwhile, the identity of the mysterious vigilante remains a secret… although, unlike the superhero, this one batman Mexican, as they “hunt” him, could end up having to answer before the judge.
