With great fanfare, without hiding and showing muscle. This is how one of the most unexpected and at the same time most striking and exciting collaborations was presented for the 2026 MotoGP season. Jorge Lorenzo and Maverick Viñales confirmed a collaboration in which the Mallorcan became the Catalan’s advisor-coach.
In this way and with a large part of public opinion predicting a short future in the relationship given the character of both, they began work with an intensity and exposure on networks that had not been seen in a MotoGP rider. So to speak, they opened the doors and let the work they both did be seen.
A job that consisted of polishing some technical parts and working, working and working. In fact, they didn’t stop until Christmas and continued once they were cold and rainy, days when you don’t feel like training but they end up making a difference.
That was the idea that both Maverick and Jorge had in mind, to be able to make a difference when the time came to get on a MotoGP. And beyond grandiose statements, when the Sepang tests started things seemed to be quite in place.
But in Thailand things began to go wrong inexplicably at that moment, and from then on everything has been an ordeal for a Maverick, who saw how his injured shoulder at Sachsenring began to cause him problems. Finally it was detected that the screws placed in him were behind them and he had to undergo surgery to fix it.
From the first day many expected failure in the Viñales-Lorenzo relationship
Before knowing all this, Viñales was already asked about his relationship with Lorenzo, and he responded briefly confirming that he had more problems than that. So the situation seemed to be cooling little by little, a prediction that many made when they began working together.
Now there are no longer any mentions of each other on social networks and it seems that the relationship, at least on a work level, has ended. We must not lose sight, however, that Lorenzo always linked this relationship to preseason work and then some touches during it. But the thing is that, officially, there is no parting of the ways but neither is there evidence that everything is continuing on its course.
What is certain is that Viñales is going through a complicated situation with KTM, and his future in MotoGP is becoming more complicated every day. Meanwhile, Jorge Lorenzo continues with his usual activities. Of course, it didn’t take long for voices to emerge pointing at both and remembering that they knew that this would not end well.
In any case, we will have to wait for the next chapter and, also, to see if Maverick finishes recovering from a shoulder that is complicating everything even more if possible.
