The Adventure family KTM continues to evolve. After the recent renovation of the 790 Dukenow it is the turn of the Mattighofen medium-displacement trail bike, which has been interpreted with its possible definitive image and numerous changes, both aesthetic and technical.
Although there is still no official confirmation from the factory, everything indicates that the future KTM 790 Adventure It is entering the final phase of development and could be seen for the first time during the next EICMA 2026, before its arrival on the market in 2027.
Goodbye to KTM’s most controversial tank
When the KTM 790 Adventure It came to the market in surprise with a technical solution that was as innovative as it was discussed. Its fuel tank descended on both sides of the engine to concentrate the weight in a lower area, reducing the center of gravity and improving dynamic behavior. The idea worked from a technical point of view, especially in off-road driving, but its design never convinced all fans.
Now, as we are telling you, the images of the new prototype indicate that KTM would have decided to abandon that concept in favor of a much more conventional tank, with more stylized lines and a profile that makes it easier to support the legs while driving. In fact, the set conveys an image closer to an asphalt trail, without giving up its off-road capabilities.

A front inspired by the Dakar motorcycles
Another section that receives a significant update is the front. The new headlight assembly adopts a more compact format and a three-dimensional LED lighting signature, while the front mask is clearly reminiscent of the official motorcycles that compete in the Dakar Rally, one of the main technological showcases of KTM.
The handlebar maintains a wide position, although apparently somewhat less elevated, reinforcing that orientation towards a mixed use between road and countryside. Where there seems to be fewer modifications is under the tank. Everything indicates that the future KTM 790 Adventure will continue to use the well-known parallel twin engine LC8c of 799 cc, with a power close to the 95 hp and a maximum torque of 87 Nm, figures that place it at the limit of the A2 license. Obviously, limiting it.
As we all know, this engine has already demonstrated a good balance between performance, consumption and versatility, so KTM he would have preferred to focus his efforts on modernizing the rest of the complex.

Renewed cycle part with components inherited from the new KTM 790 Duke
The news also reaches the cycle part. In fact, the prototype unveiled incorporates a braking system very similar to the one recently released by the new KTM 790 Dukeformed by a double 310 mm front disc with four-piston radial calipers and a 260 mm rear disc. The suspension also seems to evolve thanks to a fork WP Apex 43 mm inverted with compression and extension regulation, accompanied by a revised rear shock absorber to improve the balance between comfort and dynamic behavior. All of this is maintained on the well-known multi-tubular steel chassis, one of the hallmarks of the brand.
In the electronic section, KTM seems to opt for a more conservative strategy. The new 790 Adventure would retain the 5-inch color TFT screen that the current ones already have 790 and 890 Adventure. In this way, the large vertical screen of larger dimensions would continue to be reserved for the higher models of the range, especially the future 990 Adventure.

Of course, it is foreseeable that the software will receive improvements, incorporating new connectivity functions and updates to the driving modes, although at the moment there are no official details in this regard.
As we told you before, the Austrian brand has not yet confirmed the launch schedule, but the advanced state of the prototype suggests that the presentation is relatively close. The most plausible hypothesis places its world premiere during the show EICMA from Milan, while marketing could begin throughout the spring of 2027.
