Approximately two years have passed since talk began about the development of a possible Honda V3 engine equipped with an electric compressor. Just weeks later, this new platform was presented on the occasion of EICMA 2024. Now the possibility of a sports model equipped with an atmospheric version of said mechanics is rumored. Some Japanese media have even given it a name, V3R 900RR.
V3 engine: Honda’s technical platform of the future
Last year, Honda, on the occasion of EICMA 2025, presented to the public the V3R 900 E-Compressor, its most advanced motorcycle to date, responsible for inaugurating a completely new era in the development of internal combustion engines with electrical assistance. The platform is dominated by a 900 cc water-cooled 75º V3 engine, which incorporates an electronically controlled electric compressor for the first time in the world.
This system allows the boost pressure to be precisely managed, achieving instant and forceful torque delivery from low revolutions, similar to that of a 1,200 cc engine, but with much higher efficiency and response. With an estimated maximum torque of 150 Nm and more than 100 HP of power It becomes the present and future basis for a wide range of models, including V2, V4, V5 and V6 configurations developed from this design.
V3R 900RR 2027: “kill two birds with one stone”
Starting from this approach, there is no doubt that Honda is already working on new motorcycles powered by some of these technical architectures. Without going any further, just a few weeks ago, news broke that the Japanese brand could launch a revolutionary Africa Twin with a 900 cc V3 engine and electric compressor by 2027. But not only that, since it is now confirmed that the latter would be accompanied by a possible SuperSport model intended to retire the current generation of CBR600RR: the new V3R 900RR.
Furthermore, as a novelty, its mechanical configuration would dispense with the aforementioned compressor; that is to say, would be presented as an atmospheric version of this V3 block. The idea, in the words of Autoby’s colleagues, would be to develop “the definitive weapon to win in the World Supersport Championship”and in the process launch a reference model into the market within this competitive segment where it would encounter rivals at the level of the Yamaha R9, a KTM 990 RC R or a Ducati Panigale V2.
A technique thought out and cared for in equal parts
Mechanically, by opting for natural aspiration “The compression ratio is likely to be revised, and there is a possibility that the engine parts and ECU specifications will also be different. In Europe, it is rumored that it will surpass its rivals in power, reaching between 120 and 130 HP, so I am looking forward to seeing what performance it offers”our colleagues conclude.
All this combined with a level cycle part in which it would be included as a novelty a double arm swingarm replacing the one fitted to the V3R 900 E-Compressor. If everything goes as expected, in just a few weeks Honda could unveil the first concept of the model at EICMA 2026.
From the Japanese website they even dare to put a date on the commercial model derived from it: middle of next year. For now, we prefer to continue waiting for Honda to offer some official information regarding this supposed V3R 900RR… We will be attentive to any news on the subject.
