A congressman had to vote but couldn’t take a plane, so he traveled 1,500 km on a motorcycle

There are times when the stories that come to us from the other side of the ocean seem like a movie script and, however, when you start to discover them you realize that they are real and, sometimes, a solution to the problems that its citizens experience. This is the case not of just any citizen, but of a congressman who has traveled half the country on his Harley-Davidson to get from Wisconsin to Washington.

The story, starring Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden, is a bit epic and a bit fanfare, but it is also a solution to a difficult time. And the United States has faced the longest “government shutdown” in its history. 43 days in which public services dependent on the government have not worked, or have not done so in the usual way. And among them are airplane flights.

So with the need to travel to the US Congress, precisely to end up unblocking the situation, Congressman Van Orden thought that the best idea was to travel the 951 miles, about 1,530 kilometers, at the controls of his Harley-Davidson. Meanwhile, other congressmen went by car or organized to share it due to the unreliability of flight times. It is not a coast to coast, but we must admit that the trip is not bad at all.

Congressman Van Orden’s plan to arrive by motorcycle worked in every way

While thousands of users were left stranded at airports or forced stopovers, Congressman Van Orden drew up his plan and executed it. Of course, it wasn’t going to be easy because the temperatures along the way at this time of year are not conducive to an adventure of this type. In any case, Van Orden prepared everything and set off, certain that he could make the trip in a specific time of approximately 16 hours.

As if the adventure were not enough, a situation like this is quite a sweet treat for a politician who did not miss the opportunity to narrate all of his trip, his stops in places as typical as Arby’s and doing a little propaganda, ultimately to, yes, arrive on time for the vote. Something that not all congressmen achieved.

Getting to “work” by motorcycle is something that millions of people do in the world day after day, but the truth is that it is not so common to see it in politicians, where for one reason or another in many cases it seems that the motorcycle does not even exist. In any case, a story from which Congressman Van Orden will derive his benefit. There is no doubt about that…
