The idea of helix Combining the agility of a motorcycle with the protection of a car is not new. In fact, from time to time some brand decides to try again with solutions that seek to break the pre-established mold. On this occasion, all eyes point to this young company that could be finalizing the launch of a completely faired electric tricycle and that, in addition, would arrive fully equipped as if it were a compact passenger car.
His proposal, still shrouded in mystery, once again puts the eternal question on the table: can a three-wheeled vehicle become the universal alternative to move around the city without suffering from inclement weather? Helix MotorsHowever, it seems determined to take up the challenge from another perspective: convert this format into an electric vehicle with an automotive conception, both by design and by philosophy of use.
This is how the Helix Motors tricycle would arrive
The first leaked images show a tricycle that is a complete departure from the traditional scooter. Here we do not find a handlebar or a light body, but rather a closed cabin with front and rear seats, a monocoque-type structure, a steering wheel reminiscent of a modern utility vehicle and two wheels at the rear and one on the front axle.
The logic behind this approach is simple: if urban mobility is heading towards smaller, more efficient and safer vehicles, why not create an intermediate point between motorcycle and car that brings together the best of both worlds? The weather would no longer be a problem, ergonomics would improve, and the user would not have to give up certain safety standards. They are all advantages… Right?
Historically, electric tricycles have had an obvious Achilles heel: their batteries were too modest and the autonomy was far below what was necessary to convince a regular car or motorcycle user. However, in the last 5 years the electric vehicle industry has experienced a leap in maturity. New generation cells have reduced costs, improved energy density and demonstrated greater thermal stability.
Although helix has not yet revealed figures, the logical thing is to think about autonomy that could be between 100 and 150 km, sufficient for day-to-day life in the city. In addition, the tricycle format allows batteries to be housed at the base of the chassis without compromising interior space, something that works in its favor. It remains to be seen if this electric tricycle will make it to production or if it will remain an exercise in futuristic design. Time to time.
