yamaha prepare a new YZF-R7 by 2026 with more technology, the CP2 Euro5+ engine of the MT-07 and advanced electronics.
yamaha is about to renew one of its most popular sports shoes. According to the latest approval documents registered in Switzerland, the Iwata firm will launch a new generation of the YZF-R7equipped with a revised engine in accordance with Euro5+ regulations and with an electronic package that will mark a qualitative leap within the sports mid-range.
Since its launch, the R7 I had not received any weight changes. As we all know, its success has been based on a very successful balance between R aesthetics, agile behavior and the reliable 689 cc CP2 engine, shared with the MT-07. Now, as we are telling you, the arrival of the Euro5+ regulations and the recent update of the MT-07 2025 made it inevitable that its faired sister would follow the same path.
The Swiss documents confirm the step forward. In fact, the future R7 It is registered with the model code RM60, replacing the current RM39, and with a new engine identified as M427E, identical to the last one. MT-07.
This is the evolution of the 689 cc twin-cylinder CP2, a motor that maintains very similar power and torque figures (72.4 hp at 8,750 rpm and 68 Nm at 6,500 rpm), but now with more sophisticated efficient electronic management.
What do we know about the future Yamaha R7 2026?
The main novelty is the incorporation of an electronic accelerator (ride-by-wire), which will provide selectable driving modes and switchable traction control, an improvement highly demanded by users.
On the other hand, the tubular chassis derived from the MT-07 would be maintained, although with minor adjustments to refine the driving position and weight distribution. The approved dimensions reveal a slight increase in overall width (724 mm versus 706 mm), probably due to a new design of the fairing or mirrors.
The curb weight is around 189 kg, just 1 kg more than the previous model. This figure confirms that yamaha has maintained the compromise between lightness and rigidity, one of the keys to the dynamic character of the R7. Although there are no official images yet, a redesign of the fairing inspired by the YZF-R1 current, with more aggressive lines and a “single eye” LED front optic with functional side air intakes.
Also planned is a new color TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity and app compatibility Yamaha Y-Connectfollowing the trend of the brand’s latest launches.
In the cycle part, the inverted suspensions will continue KYB with compression and rebound adjustments, along with the rear monoshock with links. Small adjustments in the setting and a review of the brake system to refine the feel are not ruled out, possibly with a new tilt-sensitive type ABS.
We won’t have to wait too long, everything indicates that yamaha will officially show the new YZF-R7 2026 during the next Japan Mobility Show 2025, which starts in a few days, or at the EICMA in Milan, which opens its doors on November 4. If confirmed, the Japanese sports car will once again position itself as one of the most balanced and fun options.
