An iconic American circuit wants to be demolished to make a storage campaign, but it can still be saved

It is not the first time that we see a circuit for sale for sale, as is the case of the Palm Beach Internationallocated in Florida. However, on this occasion, the situation is truly suffering because the well -known American track could end up demolishing for the construction of different industrial buildings for storage. That was at least the initial plan in 2022 by the business group Industrial Portmanwhich was interested in the facilities and even offered for them.

However, “The Local Zoning Commission rejected the best bidder proposal to develop property”as explained from the local media The Drive. Now he is on sale again with the real estate firm CBRE as in charge of it, although there is no initial set price, so we assume that they are open to offers. In any case we already warn you that it will not be cheap to get facilities of this size.

The Palm Beach International circuit treasures more than six decades of history

Opened in 1964, after its construction were local brothers and entrepreneurs Joe and Edward Buchack. At that time he was, right in front of Palm Beach International, the Pratt & Whitney engines factory. With an initial cost of the time of 1.5 million dollars, the facilities had a main track of 2.25 miles in length, as well as another annex in which acceleration tests were carried out.

The Palm Beach International was later acquired, in the early 80s, by Dick Moroso, a tycoon dedicated to the sale of accessories for the world of competition. This disbursed a figure close to two million dollars, also knowing that the circuit required a large reform to be fully usable again. Moroso himself had an interview in this regard:

“When I first saw the track, I laughed. It was in very bad conditions. But then I went home and started thinking a little more about it and thought: ‘Well, I could repair this and rebuild that’, and before realizing, I had already convinced myself that I would do it. “ The facilities were under their property until his death in 1998. Subsequently, Moroso’s family tried to keep the circuit open by making events constantly until the 2008 season.

It was then that they sold it to an investment group that made the necessary improvements for Palm Beach International to remain at full performance. However, at the end of 2019 the current owners realized the value of the land and decided to put it on sale.

As explained by Racing Circuit: “In forecast of the sale, the circuit organized a last race for April 23, 2022, the Pro Hydro-Clean Last Lap. It disputed races and demonstrations of cars and other vehicles associated with the circuit over the years. ”
