BMW M2 2025, even more powerful and close to the M3 and M4

After learning about the 2025 BMW 2 Series Coupé, it is now time to analyze the improvements received by its most powerful variant, the new BMW M2 2025. It arrives on the market at the end of 2024 and compared to its predecessor it has quite subtle design changes, while updating its interior and technology… and gaining 20 HP of power. It is available from 94.500 € with automatic transmission and €95,130 if you prefer manual.

The protagonist continues to be the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, now with a power of 480 hp (353 kW) at 6,250 rpm, with a maximum speed of 7,200 rpm. The electronic programming and other components have been revised to, in addition to increasing power, improve accelerator response. It is associated with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, with three operating modes, but it can have a six-speed manual gearbox with shift assistant that avoids having to heel-toe when downshifting.

The brand ensures that the power delivery is now more linear, sustained in the highest sections of the rev range, a characteristic that the BMW M2 shares with the BMW M3 and BMW M4, with an engine that differs only in some details. . Maximum torque (550 Nm in the manual, 600 Nm in the automatic) is developed between 2,650 and 6,130 rpm.

Performance improves, with the MW M2 accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds with the automatic transmission and in 4.2 seconds with the manual (an improvement of one tenth compared to the previous one, respectively. Complete the 0 to 200 km/h h, in 12.9 seconds with the M Steptronic and 13.7 seconds with the manual, six tenths less. The maximum speed is 250 km/h, expandable to 285 km/h with the M Driver’s Package. Approved 10.2 – 9.6 l/100 km, with combined CO2 emissions of 231 – 226 g/km in the WLTP cycle. The M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled valves is part of the standard equipment.

The aesthetic changes are very slight, just details such as the black exhaust pipes, as well as the distinctive M2 logos. Newly designed wheels are available (19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear) and more body colours: three solid, five metallic (the latter is available in black). Sao Paulo Yellow solid, Fire Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic and Skyscraper Grey) to which we would have to add another six from the BMW Individual catalog (they are new Java Green, Voodoo Blue, Telesto Grey and Twilight Purple).

Inside, the steering wheel is new (with a flattened base and modified spokes, with a red centre marker, shift paddles and two M buttons to select the driving modes) and there is the possibility of having an M steering wheel in Alcantara with integrated heating. The seat upholstery is also new. The standard M Sport seats in Vernasca leather are available in red/black but can be upholstered in Merino leather, with electric adjustment and harness instead of belts. Optional M Carbon bucket seats that reduce weight are available with the M Race Track package.

In terms of technology, the BMW Operating System 8.5 wins, which transfers various functions to the screen (air conditioning, for example) or by voice. It has a 12.3-inch information screen linked to a 14.9-inch one. Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, harman/Kardon speakers, a wireless charging base and the BMW Live Cockpit Plus navigation system. It is possible to enhance the appearance with parts in Aluminium Rhombicle AnthraciteM carbon fiber or brushed aluminum.
