The Bimota DB4 Tricolorelike the rest of the contemporary models signed by the Italian firm, is presented as a mechanical compendium where technique and passion go hand in hand. It is only enough to take a look at its unmistakable shapes to make sure that we are not looking at “just another motorcycle”.
Those master lines that make up its silhouette, together with the livery that the model wears wearing the colors of the Italian flag, go far beyond the cold figures that usually take the leading role when we talk about a sports frame.
If all of the above seems not enough to you, to this particular unit we must add the fact that it only has three kilometers traveled throughout its more than two decades of life. At least that is the figure that we can see reflected on its odometer and, based on the images published in the advertisement itself, we would bet that in this case there is no trick or cardboard. Without a doubt a real “barn find” in every rule.
Bimota DB4 Tricolore: Italian genetics squared
As we all know, Bimota has used different mechanics throughout its history, from various brands, to propel its mounts. In the case of the DB4 Tricolore, its initials are the result of the union between ducati and bimota for 4th time In this case, the Rimini firm used the well-known 904 cc air-cooled V-twin engine, which was also fitted to the contemporary 900SS of the Borgo Panigale brand.
However, unlike the latter, Bimota opted to do away with the standard electronic injection system for a pair of 38mm Mikuni carburetors. The mechanical part was completed with a 6-speed gearbox, the same one that was responsible for sending the gears to the rear wheel. 80 HP of power declared at 7,000 revolutions as well as 81 Nm of maximum torque delivered at the same rpm. All in all, this DB4 Tricolore managed to catapult itself to the 212 km/h and cover the quarter mile from a standstill in just 12.1 seconds.
To complete the set, the Italian brand chose to use an oval tube aluminum chassis very similar to the one mounted on the Bimota Mantra in its day. All this accompanied by a top-level suspension team signed by Paioli and Ohlins, front and rear, respectively. With barely 165 kilograms declared drythe DB4 Tricolore became a true curve-cutting blade if it was in the right hands. The forceful Brembo braking, with 320 mm discs at the front and a third 230 mm disc anchored to the rear axle, did the rest.
With barely 264 units manufactured between 1998 and 1999the DB4 Tricolore becomes a very special mount in all aspects. Even more so if, as is the case with this example, it was not registered until 2007, and then was stored in Germany until today. According to the descriptive text of the advertisement itself, “The motorcycle is absolutely excellent and was part of one of the best collections.”
He continues: “It was first registered in Italy in 2006 and sold to Germany in 2007. Since then all fluids have been changed periodically but have not been started. “Mirrors are available, but not mounted.”
With a selling price of 9,990 eurosyou can get it by clicking on this link, although the seller already warns that “The price is fixed and non-negotiable.”
