In the early 90s, perhaps, the Moto Guzzi Daytona 1000along with the Ducati “series 8” of the moment, were the most passionate sports cars that you could own in your private garage. In Cycle World’s test of Mandello del Lario’s frame, they explained about them: “The Guzzi is a polished and completely updated version of a machine that many had left for dead. “I will probably never win a world road racing championship, but there is no more charismatic motorcycle on the market today.”
They concluded: “Both the 888 and the Daytona are expensive. Both are exclusive. Both are exciting. They both talk about emotions. And it is very easy to fall in love with both. “No excuses needed.”. And to tell the truth, they were not lacking one iota of reason, even more so when we were talking about a frame practically designed by a dentist who was passionate about Águila motorcycles.
Moto Guzzi Daytona 1000 from 1993: Only 11 miles traveled in its 32 years of life
About the latter; John Wittner The versatile dentist, pilot and Moto Guzzi lover who died last February, dedicated himself to the design and manufacture of racing motorcycles for the Italian firm for decades, achieving different important milestones throughout his life. We tell you his story in detail in this article, where we highlight his passion for the Trasalpine brand and the world of racing.
As a result of that era, motorcycles as iconic as our protagonist today would be born, the Moto Guzzi Daytona 1000, on the other hand, the most powerful model ever built by the brand until then. Its 992 cc V2 declared a maximum power of 95 HP at 8,400 rpm which, together with its good torque figure, 98 Nm at 6,600 revolutionsmanaged to offer a really good level of handling and sensations.
Although it was somewhat hampered by its weight and power figures, compared to the direct competition coming from the country of the rising sun, it enjoyed other almost unique attributes within the category. Among them a truly captivating aesthetic and that almost unique essence that only motorcycles of this type offer us.
