Since the Yamaha Ténéré 700 arrived in the catalog of the manufacturer of the three tuning forks, we have seen everything it was capable of, and we have been able to see it firsthand when we had the opportunity to test it. In fact, we have tested several versions and the feeling has been the same as that of thousands of users: it is an adventurous trail with a clear offroad focus.
That does not mean that we cannot use it and enjoy it in other areas, but there is no doubt that where the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is enjoyed the most is in the field. Off the road and even more so with the Rally versions, every millimeter of the road is enjoyed as if there were no tomorrow. We can safely say that the original essence of the first Ténéré, the XR600, is still alive.
But that’s one thing and dedicating yourself to freestyle with it is something totally different. Although we were not present at the meeting in which the development of the motorcycle was decided, we are 99% convinced that no one thought about the characteristics it needed to do freestyle, jump as if it were a dirt bike on the ramps and, even less , be prepared to do a backflip.
We must not forget that no matter how light it may seem, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 weighs as standard and fully loaded 208 kg, which means practically double the weight of any motocross bike, and a little more than double that of the lightest 250 two. times that are usually used for these stunts.
The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is not that it can do backflips, it is that it “irons” them…
That’s why the challenge faced by French freestyle rider Jérémy Rouanet is so incredible, which consisted of not only jumping down the ramps as he usually does, but also successfully completing a backflip. This second part was important to be clear about: you had to land well.
Well, the surprising thing is not only that he embarked on the adventure with the Yamaha Ténéré 700 with some modifications carried out with GYTR accessories, it is that if you see each jump and especially the backflip you see how Rouanet “irons” them. Clean jumps, perfect receptions and a new discovered ability…
It seems that what a Ténéré cannot do is because no one has thought of it yet.
