Do you remember the Aprilia Shiver 900? Well, it could soon return to the Noale range.

The partnership between the Piaggio Group and Zongshen finalizes details for the official presentation of the reborn Shiver 900 in the Chinese market. This is confirmed by the latest homologation documents in which they refer to the new model as APR900leaving no doubt that the Shiver 900 will finally be marketed under the Aprilia umbrella. Something that was initially up in the air, after images of two test mules of the model were leaked at the end of 2022.

In those days the possibility of the return of another legendary Italian brand, Gilera, was rumored. In fact, the tested prototypes showed the Gilera name engraved on some of their elements, such as on their headlight or on the digital instrument panel. Were they trying to mislead us?… Well, that is something that is still not clear, with the possibility of that the Shiver 900 also ends up being offered, under the commercial name of the Árcore firm.

Will the Shiver 900 arrive in Europe?

Looking back even further, it was at the end of 2021 when Cyclone presented its RA9 concept, a Chinese prototype based on the Shiver 900, with a completely radical power cruiser-style aesthetic. A few months later there was talk of the return of Gilera with the launch of a model based on this concept and in turn developed on the platform of the extinct Shiver 900.

Mechanically, it would use an engine similar to the one used in the 750 cc Aprilia Shiver back in 2007. That same block grew gradually, from 750 cc to 896 cc and later to 1197 cc. In addition, it was used in different Aprilia models, such as the Dorsoduro or the Caponord, in addition to the Shiver.

Already in 2023, the commercial union between Zongshen-Piaggio seemed like it would finally bear fruit with a new generation Shiver 900, protected under the resurgence of Gilera. This would equip a 90º V-twin with eight valves and 987 cc, offering 112 HP of power at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 98 Nm. In addition, it could have a single-sided swingarm, a 240 mm rear tire or top-level braking, the work of J. Juan.

Finally, as Cycle World points out, the Shiver 900 will be sold as an Aprilia and not as a Gilera, at least initially. We are talking about a frame very similar to the version that the Italian firm offered just before the entry of Euro5, at which time the Shiver 900 was removed from the Aprilia range. In fact, relevant data such as the wheelbase or the curb weight remain unchanged, with 1,440 mm and 189 kg respectively.

Only some aesthetic changes can be seen in the shapes of the fibers that surround the fuel tank. The rest of the bike appears to be exactly the same as the one sold as the Aprilia Shiver 900 just three years ago.

It remains to be confirmed whether the conditions of this agreement between the Italian group and the Chinese company will allow the well-known naked model to end up in European dealerships again, something that is currently up in the air.
