The mysterious theft of a Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 from its Australian headquarters

There are cars that are considered jewels, authentic works of art with a value far above what they had on the market. It is the case of a 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32an original model that belongs to the Nissan Australia collection, which had it on display and in perfect condition. Although perhaps we have to speak in the past tense, because this unit of the well-known “Godzilla” has been stolen directly from their Mulgrave premises (Melbourne) in strange conditions.

It is the unit in red color and with the original GTR 091 license plate, a vehicle that remains practically as it left the factory and that could be valued at 250,000 Australian dollars (about 153,918 euros at the exchange rate). It had been part of the Nissan Australia collection since 2015 and had notable historical importance, as it was the first GT-R R32 to be registered in the country. In fact, it would be one of the few that arrived in Australia, since it is estimated that there were barely a hundred the units that arrived there (not counting imports from Japan).

The strange thing about this robbery is that it happened directly in the showroom where they exhibited this Nissan Skyline GT-R R32. Next to it were other examples of great value and there is even talk that they tried to take a GT-R R35, but they did not succeed. It is about facilities with a high level of security and cars of this caliber should also have a GPS locator. Therefore, it could be related to someone knowledgeable about the history of the vehicle or familiar with the place where it was located.

In any case, a police investigation in the hands of the Australian authorities, who have also asked for citizen collaboration. They have left phone numbers for Victoria Police (1800 333 000) and Nissan headquarters (1800 035 035), as well as an email address ([email protected]). I hope this specimen returns to the place where it belongs, in this Australian collection that also has competition models from the 90sgolden era of the GT-R.
