The Internet has many things for which it is worth paying the fee to the telephone company, but there is no doubt that the mistakes of others and even more so if they have caused memes is one of them. This is exactly what happened with a guy who in 2013 became famous for his appearance in front of the cameras: sporting Harley-Davidson and hunks, showing off, leaving a sentence for history and, then, crashing in front of the entire public.
That man behind the meme has a name, Kosanke Ilija, known as William, although now he is back in the news for a much less fun issue, at least for him. Well, it’s not that blowing up in front of all the people after acting cool and with the helmet in your hand wasn’t hurtful enough to your self-esteem, but this is more serious.
And, as the news reaching us from Italy reflects, Ilija is in an investigation for an alleged scam against insurance companies through simulated or aggravated claims. The investigation is being carried out by the Genoa Prosecutor’s Office and it is not a minor matter, since it appears that 36 people are being investigated for 46 accidents that occurred between 2023 and 2026. Of them, at least 18 present, always according to the investigation, elements considered fraudulent.
In total, it is estimated that the damage exceeds half a million euros. How does Kosanke fit into all this? Well, apparently he would have been the promoter and organizer of the entire operation, locating the people who would later appear as drivers, injured parties or witnesses. Estimates and invoices were then presented to the insurer for repairs considered non-existent.
A warning about the increase in accidents at Harley-Davidson raised the alarm
The investigation estimates that everything started, at least, in 2020 and began with Harley-Davidson motorcycles in which Kosanke was sometimes the driver and other times in which they would have suffered damage while they were parked with an accomplice who pretended to be responsible for them.
The curious thing about it all is that it was the IVASS, Istituto per la Vigilanza sulle Assicurazioni, who raised the alarm when detecting an anomalous increase in accidents at Harley-Davidson in the Liguria area. From that point on, an investigation began that ended with the seizure of motorcycles, parts, more than 28,000 euros in cash and several properties considered disproportionate to the declared income.
But the thing does not end there and the Prosecutor’s Office has requested prison for Kosanke and another investigated person, as well as house arrest for seven other investigated people, all of this as a precautionary measure until there is a trial. It will be then that the guilt of what was one of the funniest memes of the last decade can be proven. And, until proven otherwise, the protagonist of one of the most memorable videos of the last decade will continue to be innocent.
