After the last victory of Enea Bastianini with the Desmosedici GP of the Ducati Lenovo Team, Ducati has managed to reach the 100 MotoGP wins: an important milestone for the Borgo Panigale factory, achieved in a unique context, at its home race, on the circuit located in the heart of the Motor Valley just a few kilometres from the headquarters in Bologna.
Ducati thus joins the elite of manufacturers capable of reaching 100 MotoGP wins, something that only two other manufacturers have achieved in history. Ducati is the first European factory to achieve this result. Bastianini’s victory has also allowed Ducati to add its sixth World Constructors’ Title in its history, with six Grands Prix still to go until the end of the 2024 season. For the Italian factory, this is the fifth consecutive constructors’ title since 2020.
100 MotoGP victories that mean new challenges
It was in 2020 that Ducati celebrated its 50th MotoGP victory thanks to Andrea Dovizioso’s triumph (14 in total) on the Spielberg circuit in Austria. Until then, apart from him, six other riders were able to bring the red of Borgo Panigale to the top of the podium. The first was obviously Loris Capirossi (7 wins in total with Ducati) at Montmeló in 2003, the year of Ducati’s debut in MotoGP.
This was followed by victories for Casey Stoner (23), the first World Champion with the Desmosedici GP in 2007; Troy Bayliss (1), who after winning the Superbike World Championship took part in the 2006 Valencian GP replacing the injured Gibernau and won the race; Andrea Iannone (1), Jorge Lorenzo (3) and Danilo Petrucci (2).
In the last 4 years, Ducati has achieved another 50 victories and won the World Riders’ Title again 15 years later. Francesco Bagnaia, two-time World Champion with Ducati in 2022 and 2023, is currently the rider with the most victories with the Desmosedici GP, with 25 wins out of 100 achieved by the red in the premier class. In 2021, Jack Miller (3) took his first victory with the Desmosedici GP at the Spanish GP, followed by two more.
In the same year, Jorge Martin took the first win for a Ducati satellite team rider on the Pramac Racing Desmosedici GP. The current leader of the World Championship and runner-up last year, has 7 wins with Ducati. Enea Bastianini, with today’s win, also has a total of 7 wins. Marco Bezzecchi, rider of the VR46 Racing Team, has a total of 3 wins with Ducati, while his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio has one, achieved last year at the Qatar GP.
Johann Zarco also contributed with a victory in 2023 in Australia, while Marc Márquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) has two wins, the last one achieved two weeks ago at the San Marino and Rimini Riviera GP. Claudio Domenicali (CEO of Ducati Motor Holding) commented on this historic milestone:
“Reaching 100 MotoGP victories and winning the World Constructors’ Title makes us proud and writes the name of Ducati indelibly in the history books of the world’s top motorcycle competition. These moments are an opportunity to look back and appreciate each and every effort, hard work and years of dedication and continuous innovation.”
Continued: “These are the values that have characterised our participation in the MotoGP World Championship since 2003 and the perseverance and dedication we have put into it have led us to become the reference point in the Championship today, through a working method that provides for a constant exchange with the world of production motorcycles, as demonstrated by the new Panigale V4, the seventh generation Ducati supersport recently presented here at Misano. We celebrated our 50th victory in 2020 and the next 50 have come in just 4 years, with an extraordinary trend of victories.”
Concludes: “100 MotoGP wins and a fifth consecutive Constructors’ World Championship are the culmination of our best sporting moment ever. A heartfelt thank you to all the riders, teammates, engineers, technicians, our partners and sponsors, collaborators, Ducati riders and all the people who have worked hard over the years with passion and determination to bring Ducati to the top of the podium.”
Luigi Dall’Igna (Ducati Corse Managing Director) said: “It’s only been four years since we celebrated 50 MotoGP victories and in a short time we have added the same number of wins to reach 100. Before us only two manufacturers had achieved this and we are the first Europeans to do so. It is a very important result that fills us with pride.”
Concludes: “We owe it all to 15 fantastic riders who have written pages of history alongside us over the years. Today we also won our sixth MotoGP constructors’ title, the fifth in a row. In addition to the riders and teams, this is also the victory of all the girls and boys of Ducati Corse, many of whom work outside the spotlight and who, with their tireless work, passion and dedication, have allowed us to grow and become what we are.”
