They say that there are no two without three and perhaps that is why KTM will officially present its new 390 SMC R 2025at the next EICMA 2024, along with the also new KTM 390 Adventure R and KTM 390 Enduro R 2025. And all of them, developed from a common platform although focused on a very different use. Especially the first and protagonist of these lines, the 390 SMC R, a motorcycle loaded with genetics Ready to Race from the Austrian firm.
Now, thanks to the Argentine colleagues at La Moto, we have seen the first images of the model and we are in a position to explain some of its essential aspects. Although it shares a chassis and engine with its adventurous sisters, the 390 SMC R is equipped with a series of elements responsible for giving it that unique personality that Supermotard models in general possess.
KTM 390 SMC R 2025 in detail
The idea of a 390 SMC R has been floating around in the minds of the brand’s thinking heads for years. In 2021, images of the patent registration of what the model could be were leaked for the first time. The patents were even shown to locate the radar systems in the different headlights, including the round ones used in the Husqvarna range. Among the most notable details we found the use of radial type tires on both axles.
The images that we show you today refer to this 390 SMC R 2025, exposing the main aspects that will serve as a basis for this particular model. Although the general platform is shared with the 390 Adventure, the 390 SMC R variant includes different geometries, as well as a set of tires and a front suspension system specific to this version.
In the mechanics we find the propeller released in the renewed 390 Duke. We are talking about the well-known single-cylinder LC4, now it manages to reach the 399cc thanks to increasing the stroke by 4 mm. KTM declares a power of just over 44 HP and a maximum torque of 39 Nmoffering 2 driving modes, Street and Rain and with the possibility of mounting an optional Quickshifter +.
As for the changes, the 390 SMC R includes 17” alloy wheels on both axles, shod with road tires. Likewise, the ergonomics have been completely revised, the position of the handlebars and footpegs, adapting to the new demands of the model, as well as the geometries of its suspensions. The idea is to gain agility and ease of riding in any circumstance, inherent characteristics in a Supermotard mount.
The 390 SMC R will be presented along with another string of new KTM models at EICMA 2024, including the new KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 125 Enduro R. All of this predicts a 2025 within the European firm full of new features and innovation, positioning itself as a reference within the two-wheeled sector in different segments of it.
