After a really complicated season, GASGAS found stability with KTM. However, now the Austrian giant, which continues its recovery process after the tremendous financial problem it found itself in, has decided to transfer the production of the only GASGAS that were produced in Terrassa, the trial ones, to the Austrian headquarters.
This announcement made public by Gottfried Neumeister, director of KTM, comes nearly a decade after in January 2015 the firm, then in Spanish hands, had to cease production and, a few months later, file for bankruptcy proceedings that led to a liquidation process.
It was then that Torrot, based in Mataró, won the competition to take over the brand and a few months later restart the company’s activity. But the problems did not stop then and in June 2019, the then called Torrot GASGAS had to close, sending the workforce into unemployment.
At the end of 2019 KTM took over 60% of GASGAS and the Gerona brand once again gained strong momentum despite the pandemic. In fact, in addition to trials, the range of enduro and motocross was growing and the brand of Spanish origin reached MotoGP where its colors were on the Tech3 bikes in addition to those of Moto3.
GASGAS was established in Terrassa in 2022
But after the financial problems of KTM and the business group, a restructuring has come that will affect the production of trial motorcycles in Spain and a total of 20 workers. Meanwhile, the headquarters will continue to operate with the administrative and customer service staff who will continue to work in Terrasa.
Precisely, the Terrasa factory, inaugurated in October 2022, was carried out thanks to a public investment of half a million euros according to 3Cat with the commitment to maintain activity for at least three years.
This decision also coincides with the one announced last week by the brand of not having official trial teams in the World Championship and the Spanish Championship, although it will continue to provide assistance to different teams and riders.
In the same way, neither of these two pieces of news affects in any way the motorcycle service, spare parts and assistance through the current Network of Official GASGAS Dealers, which will continue to work completely normally as has happened to date.
