Neither KTM nor Lewis Hamilton have had a 2024 like what was expected. And we are not talking about the complicated situation that the Austrian company is going through economically, but rather the results on the track. Unlike KTM, of course, Lewis has climbed to the top of the podium twice and has a solid project for 2025, where he will drive for Ferrari for the next two seasons.
On the other side we have KTM, which this year has not been able to win races, making what could be a great year nothing more than a frustrated dream. The situation at KTM is not easy, far from it. Things have not gone well on the track and off the track there is a lot of noise about how the group’s financial problems will affect the racing department.
As we mentioned previously, from the KTM group and with Pit Beirer as the main person in charge of KTM Racing, the idea is to continue with its projects. In fact, as reported by SpeedWeek, even Pedro Acosta has been to Mattighofen to see the situation first-hand and, apparently, he returned convinced that in 2025 they will have competitive material.
Hamilton and KTM have had talks
But beyond all this, we have Lewis Hamilton as a possible KTM partner in the not too distant future. Hamilton’s passion for motorcycles is not new and in addition to demonstrating his skills on occasion, now, as Beirer himself said, they are talking to him about becoming a team owner.
Technically, as Beirer said, the situation that MotoGP has been acquired by Liberty Media (at the expense of what the European Union says) is attracting investors and Hamilton could be one of them.
In fact, the seven-time World Champion confirmed his interest in the championship at the beginning of December and Beirer confirms contacts: “I can only say that we have had very interesting conversations with their management team.” To add: “That Lewis Hamilton has an interest in MotoGP and is considering having his own team is not a secret. There are concrete conversations here too.”
One of the big points to take into account would be the issue of sponsors, since it is known that Hamilton has had the support of Monster Energy for some time, to which Beirer stated to his Speed Week colleagues: “Anyone who wants to collaborate with us knows how close we are: Red Bull and KTM are inseparably linked. This has not been an issue in the negotiations until now.”
From these words it is clear, however, that all the contacts are in an embryonic state and that although there is interest in seeing Hamilton in MotoGP, it is not something that is going to happen from today to tomorrow, or perhaps it will?
Sometimes the world of competition is capable of giving us many surprises… We cannot forget that already this summer the rumor was strongly heard that the British could have bought Gresini.
