Is BMW planning a naked version of its current R 18?

Markus Flasch, the current boss of BMW Motorrad, has surprised all his followers with an image that he himself has uploaded to one of his social networks. In it you can see how he lifts a sheet, and shows the rear axle of what looks like a new custom-style R 18, although the excellent aluminum swingarm gives us reason to think about other theories.

In that same publication he wrote: “Something big is coming…”. So now it would be time to ask what, but taking a closer look at the brand's current range, everything suggests that a new retro-style roadster model could be in the works, developed on the basis used by the R 18.

New BMW R 18 with a style similar to the R 12 nineT?

Following an interview conducted by Motorrad Online last March with Markus Flasch, the theory that BMW is preparing the launch of a new model very soon is confirmed:

“Under the motto “reinforcing strengths”, we will soon present something in which we will try to integrate this engine, the most typical BMW flagship, that is, this big boxer, into a more typical BMW motorcycle.”

Concludes: “We showed a concept bike on the Concorso d'Eleganza platform in Villa d'Este on Lake Como. This will be a test to see if we can do something completely different with the engine. “I don't mean to do without something else, but as a complement.”

That concept that Flasch talks about is possibly the same one that stars in his publication, and if we stick to the statement issued by the German firm itself, it is very likely that this will be the basis on which a new model of R 18complementing the current custom version:

“Guests and media representatives will also be able to enjoy two very special world premieres: a unique sports car with a maritime touch and rock 'n' roll on two wheels.”.

If we do a memory exercise we can remember how the BMW R 18 was presented precisely under the motto “Rock'n'Roll”, in 2020. In any case, we will have to wait until next May 24, when it will become official the presentation of the original concept of this BMW R 18 nineT?
