Public administrations work or say to work to improve user safety, and to circulate is as dangerous as possible. No one escapes that the deaths of deaths are alarming, and that a single victim on the road is a drama. But that does not remove to put the data in perspective and compare with the situation in other countries.
Far from what it might seem, Spain is very statistically speaking of other countries of the European Union, where being a user of public roads is more dangerous. And it is that the European Council for Transportation Security (ETSC) has prepared a classification in which fatalities collects in 2023 and equals the inhabitants.
With this fact, the number of deaths in traffic accident per million inhabitants have made a ranking that leads Bulgaria with 81.6 deaths per million. With just under 6.5 million inhabitants, 526 people died, which represents 81.6 killed per million inhabitants.
A similar figure we find in Romania with 81.1 killed per million in a country with 1,545 deaths and just over 19 million inhabitants. This sad Top3 is completed by Serbia with very similar figures in global terms to those of Bulgaria: 503 deaths with 6.6 million inhabitants.
From our closest environment our neighboring Portugal stands out, which, with its less than 10 million inhabitants, lost 600, which leaves a rate of 60.2 and places it in the sixth place on the list. Italy is not much better either, with a 52.4 due to the 3,094 deaths in a population that touches 59 million. France, with similar global figures, low in the rate to 48 deaths per million because its population is practically 66 million.
As for Spain and despite the fact that the figures of these last times are not encouraging, the rate is 37 deaths per million inhabitants. With 1,779 killed in 48,085,361 inhabitants, we put ourselves in 21st position and not far from Cyprus or Ireland. In fact, only two large countries of the European Union plus the United Kingdom are in a better position than us.

This is Germany with 33.5 deaths per million and the United Kingdom itself, where the low rate up to 25.1. With these data, 24 and 29 are placed respectively. On this occasion the winner is the least deceased registered, who was Norway with a total of 110 for almost 5.5 million inhabitants, which leaves him a 20 -dead rate per million.
