For approximately five seasons, the “Demo mode” of KTM has become one of the topics of debate by many customers of the Austrian brand. Specifically in the 2022 season and coinciding with the launch of the 790 Duke, the orange signature announced the arrival of this technological package and the functions associated with it.
Then he explained in the press release related to his new model: “KTM is also introducing a new “Demo Mode” with the 790 Duke. This allows the rider the opportunity to test all the electronic riding assistance system options free of charge for a maximum of 1500 km. Once these have been completed, the customer can decide which software to purchase and install, for a fee, at any KTM dealership.”
“Demo Mode” as a prelude to paid packages
In some way and with the controversial “Demo Mode”, KTM puts the honey on the lips of its customers during a trial period and then makes them check out if they want to enjoy all the functionalities that it offers. Nothing new under the sun within the automotive sector. Tell this to those who purchase some supposedly premium car models and have to pay a monthly subscription to be able to enjoy, for example, the heating function that their seats are equipped with.
That is, brands have looked for new ways to make money by forcing their customers to pay an extra amount for certain equipment packages. Either in a single payment or in “comfortable monthly installments”. Each company approaches it from a different prism, although the purpose is the same. Something understandable, on the other hand, taking into account the enormous competition they face, but above all the reduced profit margins with which they have been working for years.

KTM changes its mind about its “Demo Mode”
The curious thing about the matter, in the case of KTM, is how the brand has not issued an official statement in reference to this matter. Perhaps it will do so later, when the decision is fully established and most of the models that equip it have finally eliminated it from their list of standard equipment. The fact is that we have been made aware of this novelty through the official press release of the launch of the new 790 Duke 2027.
The brand briefly explains the evolution of its well-known naked model: “Despite its larger and more “mature” appearance, a weight reduction of 2 kg further improves agility. All this, together with a new rear subframe, new steering plates and a new tank design, further improves behavior and ergonomics and provides an excellent feel of the chassis in general and the front axle in particular.”

It is at this point when he refers to his decision to eliminate the aforementioned “Demo Mode”: “And most importantly: we have listened and we have acted. We have taken riding touch into account, which has led to the gradual withdrawal of Demo mode in future models. A clear decision, defined by those who ride the bike.” We must remember that until now the functions of “Demo Mode” are included in the well-known Track and Tech packages of the brand.
The first of these unlocks all Track Ride mode functions, offering the highest level of adjustment, more direct throttle response and reduced electronic intervention. This also includes Track Ride Mode, Anti Wheelie Control (5 levels + OFF), Launch Control, Lap Timer & Telemetry Screen, Throttle Response Settings and Traction Control, adjustable in 9 or 10 levels, depending on the model.

For its part, the Tech Pack includes everything from the Track Pack and adds:
- Engine Slip Control (MSR) – Prevents rear wheel instability during aggressive downshifts.
- Quickshifter+ – Allows you to shift up and down without using the clutch lever.
- Suspension Pro – (on models with semi-active suspensions) unlocks full electronic suspension adjustment.
- Adaptive brake light (depending on market) – Flashes during emergency braking to alert subsequent traffic.
- Engine Brake Control (EBC) (depending on model) – Adjusts the intensity of the engine brake when closing the throttle.
- Cruise control (on models prepared for this function)

We will see how the matter develops and if KTM will replace the “Demo Mode” with some other permanent technological package in its current model range. In any case, for more information and details about the latter you can go directly to the brand’s official website or visit your nearest authorized distributor.
