Have you ever jumped on a motorcycle? If you have done it, you know exactly what it feels, if you have not done it, it is similar to what you feel when you lie with the motorcycle and you think you are about to touch up with the head, and you have barely varied some degrees your inclination. Come on, when you jump it seems that you have flown dozens of meters and it is normal for you to fall very close, unless you are Tom Pagès …
Well, with that in the mind I imagine the challenge that is jumping neither more nor less than 40 meters long. It may not seem much if we compare it with records that are there, but it is a real madness: we talk about more than one floor of 10 floors lying on the ground. To this suggest that the jump you do from a truck running at 20 kilometers per hour to land, after passing over an informative panel that is nine meters high, you make a backflip and fall in another truck that goes 20 kilometers per hour.
Just that, as we tell you, is what Luc Ackermann has done on a North-Westphaly Rhine highway, in Germany. There he has carried out this challenge that, despite having so much physics after him, was about to go wrong.
Having the idea of jumping between trucks is one thing, doing it like Luc ackermann another very different
But before analyzing the jump itself, something that will be brief because it only took a few seconds, you have to review the figures. If until now you have not put your hair on end now … Luc Ackermann had to accelerate just up to 54 km/h, that would give you the necessary impulse to advance between the two trucks (which measure 31 meters long each), overcome the panel, make the backflip and land safely and all with a time window of 0.5 seconds.
If it arrived a little before or a little later to the ramp, the possibility of colliding against the panel was very high, as if it did not reach the exact speed. But there is more, physically in between, and although the jump was 40 meters, the trucks were only 23 of each other. That is, in the short time that Ackerman was in full flight after jumping they toured 17 meters.
And how do you coordinate all that? Well, thanks to a thorough preparation carried out by Thomas Stöggl, head of Global Performance Innovation of the Thalgau Athlete Performance Center (Austria), which calculated all the parameters. From the acceleration of the motorcycle to the speed of the trucks, the take -off angle, the flight curve and even the wind conditions, so that the jump was as safe as possible.
As for the execution of the jump, it must be said that it was practically perfect, but the truth is that the disaster was centimeters to occur. In the air there was a small diversion from the motorcycle that made it fall very close to the edge.
Luckily everything ended well, we see the video and not the judicial experts and Luc Ackermann has made history.
