Marc Márquez undergoes surgery and Pol Espargaró will get on the bike in Australia and Malaysia

After his fall in Indonesia and traveling to Madrid to undergo various studies, it was determined that Marc Márquez did not need surgery at that time to cure his injury. However, in the new check-up that the Spanish pilot underwent at the Ruber International Hospital in Madrid, the medical team confirmed that the coracoid fracture and the ligament injury did not show sufficient signs of stabilization after a week of immobilization.

For this reason and given the risk of residual instability, it was decided to perform an operation to perform surgical stabilization and also repair the acromioclavicular ligaments. As reported by specialists, the operation was within the planned plans if the evolution was not favorable, which is why it has been carried out now.

In the same way, it is reported that Marc’s recovery will follow the same process and that the evolution will be what marks his return to competition, still without a date.

Marc’s return to competition has no date, but Pol Espargaró is back

While we still don’t know when Marc will return to racing, it can be confirmed that Pol Espargaró will compete for KTM in the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix. The Spanish rider, who combines his duties as a commentator on DAZN with his role as a test and reserve rider at KTM, will once again replace Maverick Viñales.

Viñales continues his long recovery process and although he returned early to continue developing the bike, he has never been able to leave the injury behind, which is why they have decided to give extra rest to a shoulder that was tremendously damaged after the fall in Germany.

In this way, Pol Espargaró will get back on the KTM in a Grand Prix after the two great performances he carried out in the Czech Republic and in Hungary, where despite his inactivity in the competition, he showed great pace. Now, however, he arrives at Phillip Island, which is a track where he has not competed for a long time despite the fact that Pol himself has declared that he likes it.

Pol's performances in Brno and Balaton Park were at a high level

So we will have to be attentive to the performance that the Catalan driver may have both in the Australian event and, a week later, in Malaysia. And unlike Phillip Island, Espargaró has ridden at Sepang in the tests and that is undoubtedly a plus point.
