Mick Doohan is much more than a driver, he is much more than a champion, more than a legend, he is a hero, an example of improvement. And what the Australian achieved was truly outrageous. Before the accident that almost ended his sporting career, and almost cost him his leg, he was already one of the protagonists. And it is almost certain that without the Assen accident, the ’92 title would have gone to his showcase.
But the things that could have been and weren’t are not what made Doohan great. What made Mick Doohan great was the way in which he overcame the worst odds, adapted to his obvious physical shortcomings and still established a dictatorship of five consecutive titles in the premier category, from 1994 to 1998.
Five spectacular seasons and a career, which came to an abrupt end in Jerez, for a driver who dominated in a way that would not be seen again until Valentino Rossi and that, since then, has not been repeated. And five consecutive world titles in the premier category is something so unusual that only the two most mentioned, the incomparable Agostini, have achieved it. In Giacomo’s case he stopped the count at seven…
But returning to Mick Doohan, as we said, any of his motorcycles are an object of worship and for logical reasons. Therefore, although it is a small “koala” scooter, we are looking at a model of great value and it is now for sale, although much cheaper than the house that was sold a while ago.
The scooter that Mick Doohan used to get around the paddock is for sale
And there is a 1995 Honda Bali that the Australian used to get around the paddock, at least that season, which is now for sale in England. It is a unit in good condition in terms of aesthetics and also mechanics because after going through the workshop it looks like the first day.
The seller says that it works great and despite being a moped, sold mopeds from the 50s!, it has an Arrow exhaust and, presumably, some preparations. To this we must add that Mick Doohan’s special decoration is more than present with the design of his legendary helmet and his Koala.
In addition, to make it a collector’s item, it must be added that this moped comes with documentation that confirms that, in fact, it is a motorcycle used by Mick. But if it was a Doohan or HRC motorcycle, how did it end up on sale? Well, apparently at the time it was auctioned for charitable purposes, and this is proven by photos that the seller has in his possession.
If you are considering purchasing this little piece of history, you can visit the Classic Superbikes page for more information. Although the price is quite reasonable, as it is available for 3,950 pounds, just under 4,500 euros.
