Motorcycles of more than 500 cc will suffer an extra tariff in 2025

The war of tariffs between the US and the EU is served. In response to the US decision. up to 26,000 million euros Of steel exports, aluminum and EU derivatives, the European Commission has launched measures to counteract the economic impact of these tariffs. The EU will restore its 2018 and 2020 tariffs on US imports as of April 1 and introduce additional countermeasures to the middle of the same month.

Specifically, the European Commission has confirmed that, if new measures are not taken, a Additional 50% tariff to American motorcycles of more than 500 cc as of April 1, 2025. In addition, in a second phase in which the European Commission will expand this proposal of tariffs, and which will be applied as of April 13, all motorcycle categories of less than 500 cc, as well as electric motorcycles, could also be included.

The tariff war could seriously harm the motorcycle industry

The list of this second phase is subject to a public consultation to which ACEM (European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers) will respond urging the exclusion of all motorcycles of this commercial war outside our sector. The motorcycle sector in Europe and the United States is deeply interconnected, with strong industrial and economic ties. European manufacturers export a significant number of motorcycles to the US, while US manufacturers have a strong presence in the European market.

The imposition of motorcycle tariffs runs the risk of disturbing business, harming consumers and threatening employment on both sides of the Atlantic. Instead of allowing this war of tariffs to be aggravated with retaliation measures, the European motorcycle industry asks for a negotiated solution for transatlantic trade.

The US motorcycle industries and the EU want a fair transatlantic trade and to continue providing higher quality products to our passionate customers in Europe and the United States.

The tariff war, between the US and the EU, reaches the 2 -wheeled sector

Antonio PerlotGeneral secretary of the ACEM, has declared on this war of tariffs: “Although we recognize the need for a balanced response to commercial conflicts, motorcycles should not become collateral damage to broader commercial conflicts. The motorcycle industry provides high quality manufacturing and related jobs, mobility and access to employment for millions of people and is a fundamental economic engine. ”

Concludes: “As nobody wins in commercial wars, we strongly ask to return to reason and that both parties reach a fair solution. ” For its part, José María RiañoSecretary General of Anesdor, he said regarding the war of tariffs:

“It makes no sense to include motorcycles in commercial disputes between Europe and the United States, because both are equally harmed. In addition, in the European case, Spain could be specially affected. For our specialties, such as offroad or electric motorcycles, the North American market is important. ”
