It was a matter of time before the business group Pierer Mobility finally acquired a majority stake in MV Agusta. Specifically, the 50.1% of sharesalthough we cannot rule out the total purchase of the Italian brand by the Austrian company, taking into account where we come from.
To give background, this business operation would have to go back to November 2022, when KTM took over 25.1% of MV Agusta. Subsequently, both KTM boss Stefan Pierer and board member Hubert Trunkenpolz made no secret of their intentions regarding the Italian luxury brand.
Pierer Mobility takes full control of MV Agusta
A few months later, in May of last year, Timur Sardarov gave an interview to his German colleagues from Motorrad and at that time he commented that: “KTM has the right of pre-emptive subscription just in case, as is usual among partners.”
And he continued: “But in the next three or four years nothing is going to change in the majority situation. I don’t want to not sell. First, MV Agusta has to be stable and profitable, then we will see”. At that time, Sardarov was the majority owner of MV Agusta with 74.9% of the shares.
Shortly after, just a couple of months, it was KTM that took control of the MV Agusta distribution in our country. By October 2023, there was speculation again about the possibility that Pierer Mobility (KTM) could take over 100% of the shares of MV Agusta, marking a date on the calendar: spring 2026.
Two years from this moment, Pierer Mobility has issued a new statement announcing the acquisition of 50.1% of the shares of the Italian brand. This means that the Austrian business group takes control definitively, despite the objections of the head of the Varese brand.
In fact, and as explained in the text itself published on the official Pierer Mobility website: “The purchase option granted to KTM AG on the basis of the annual financial statements as of December 31, 2025 to acquire a majority stake in MV Agusta Motor SpA will now be exercised prematurely.”
And continues: “The purchase price of the remaining 25% of the shares was calculated in accordance with the previously agreed valuation method (EBITDA multiple). This means that KTM AG will take over the majority and also the industrial management of MV Agusta Motor SpA. In the medium term, an annual production volume of more than 10,000 MV Agusta premium motorcycles is planned at the Varese plant.”
This acquisition also brings with it the dismissal of Timur Sardarov as CEO of MV Agusta: “With the early acquisition of the majority and as a commitment to location and employee responsibility, Hubert Trunkenpolz, Member of the Board of Directors of Pierer Mobility AG, replaces Timur Sardarov as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management, who will continue being available to the company as vice president, brand ambassador and consultant.”
